Does the DT680 have a good CD player and a good tape deck? Can it run on batteries? When did they stop making it?

EDIT: I think I'm starting to fall for the Cobra tops. Something really cool about how compact they are and how good they're said to sound. It looks like the RX-DT75, RX-DT95, RX-DT707, and RX-DT909 are the ones to get. Is there a standout amongst these for both CD and tape sound quality?

I found a cheap DT690 and the CD player sounds amazing but the tape deck sounds muddy. Where should I start for tuning it up?
A proper cleaning with isopropyl alcohol (heads and pinch rollers), demagnetize, and possibly an azimuth adjustment for the play head.

The dt680 sounds much better. Get one if u can. The 690 has no deep bass whatsoever.

A useful topic that member boomboxeryrocks has started here. (And a screen name that must please members of the website, eh?)

Here’s a twist: can anyone fix the auto-reverse tape-deck mechanism of an MCD-series Sanyo boombox with a top-mounted CD player? The seller says it’s got an occasional tape-eating problem. The trick is to get in the system, fix the tape deck and “close up shop” without breaking or badly jolting the CD player module. Sorry, but stiff shipping fees have to make it a “U.S. only” contact. Thanks, people.

Definitely the cobra top RX-DT 707, i have two of them and would never part with them. Also consider the Sharp GX-M10, better than the Kaboom with a 100 RMS output, beside having a CD player it also has usb input so you can play a vast amount of music off a stick (i put mine on random play).

Wow looks like a smaller Sony FH series!! I bet this beats the DT-680! I’ve heard from Ira that the DP200 Kaboom is the best of the Kabooms!
I have the RV-NB1 and it’s wicked to!!😊😎🎶🎼📻
Usually Sony’s suffer from lack of deep bass.
I vote the rx-dt680. It has great sound and excellent bass reproduction for a boombox. Sounds closer to a mini system.

I say the dt-707 or the dt909. When I heard the dt75 it didn’t seem to have good deep bass but I only got a chance to hear it very briefly.
