M80 doesn't have much power but it still sounds good for what it is. Why does every box in a collection need to be powerful enough for the street? It's not like you're going to take every one of your boxes outside. Enjoy each for what it is. Some sound good, others don't but they look good, and others are just built nice. True collectors enjoy all kinds.

As for 3-piece, sure those Sonys are loud as hell, but they don't sound as nice as the Telefunken IMO

Has the OP been back to provide any answers to what he was looking for?

There are so many to choose from and we all have different tastes.

Perhaps we should give the OP time to respond and help us help him with what flavor of boxes he is looking for.

i agree reli it has power just poor sound, sounds just like a sharp gf 555 and i recommended the sony fh909 because it's better than the funken imho, double the power and sounds just as good, i have both and they can be had cheap...my last one cost much less than most m70's

JVC M80, it's more interesting than the M70, more advanced, and costs only one-quarter what an M70 would.
deffo worth buying just to scrap for an m90 lol....never thought id defend the m70 yes the m80 is more advanced but they sound shitee lol m70 would eat it backwards lol

and if you want the best box ever invented it's the sony fh909 but it's not portable

Panasonic RX5500.

Great sounding box and easy to work on also.

Tre made some great suggestions for some good mid size boxes and I'll throw in a couple more: the Sanyo M9994 and the Aiwa 660 (so Skippy is represented). :)

Wow! I got a much better deal on mine. I guess good deals do still exist :-)

That brings up a good point. What is your price point boyg0newild?

wow thanks everyone for your input! I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to this thread and to all of you, have been very busy here with the holidays and the new year and getting things back on track.

my price range is definitely not more than $500. I'm very picky with the kind of boxes I buy but am looking into expanding my horizons. Hopefully I can find a good one within my price range!

lots of info to look up with all the feedback I got, very excited :)

Mmm....I found the M80 had weak sound in my opionion due to the stiff woofers & treble was lacking. Too much midrange coming form the woofers so I swapped mine with M50 woofers & BAM!! It sounded way, way better...great tuner tho....one of the best tuners EVER! You can use digital presets & it has fine tuning which I've never seen on any other digital tuner ever. It was probably the first digital tuner of its kind...worth having for that alone.
