i look at it like this , i collect what i love to look at every day and since i can't collect women i have to limit myself to audio and a few other things ,some people collect dogs/dolls/stamps/coins, collecting money is always smart/cats/bugs you name it ,i'm sure there just as crazy as we are lol.

Just wondering...are we NUTS for having such LARGE boombox collections...i mean when is enough...actually enough? Will it ever be enough?

I just had a party this evening at my house, and my friends (which are all 10+ years older than me) don't really understand why i keep buying these machines. I've gotten to the point where i don't even get into any explanation about it anymore...i just say "music/records/DJ'ing and boxes is my passion" and that's that.

My "real life friends" think i'm nuts...what do you fellow collectors here REALLY think...and are you in a similar situation as me?

I`ve been told that it`s an odd hobby by those who are the same people that throw a C-F100 in the dumpster!! They are clueless! What surprises me is that since they are 10+ years older than you, they should have some connection or affinity to the day when it was cool to put on your favorite cassette and rock on! I guess it`s those same people that couldn`t figure out how to plug in the power cord back then and still don`t understand that each box has it`s own personality!
In the end, who is the guy sitting on all the money? :sin:

Ask them if they have any for parts, never no what you can get for $10.00 !

I only have one BBX and everyone I know thinks I have a problem .

My true obsession is the Ford Contour SVT. I have owned roughly 10 of those . I think I have a mental issue that isn't severe enough to go to the doctor for. The BBX and cars really fill the void in my life. Not sure really what the void is, but I know those things fill it .

Interesting topic.
I always feel a bit stupid or crazy when someone new comes to my flat and looks at my boombox shelf (even more if the visitor is a girl) but so far I had just positive reactions.
They love it and ask lots of questions about the different units. First reactions are like" WOW!" until they see the VZ and realise that it plays records vertical ... At this point: "WTF!"
Dont worry guys and keep on collecting!

You think you have it bad. I used to collect AMC Eagles, after that anything seems normal.


My wife's cake and candy making stuff takes up more room then anyone's BBX collection could, so I am not in a trouble on the home front. And now she's started collecting vintage heavy duty kitchen equipment and that stuff is really taking over.

I only have about 80 boomboxes but am down to 4 cars!
I used to have 11 cars and only 4 boomboxes!
Oh well!! I don't care-how's that!! Better than drugs & alcohol! Well most times

Cool thread guys - for me I am only new to the game of boxes with just a C-100 and GF777, but I would like to at least collect just one of some of the other big hitters like the M90, maybe a Superjumbo, maybe a Fisher.

For sure there's some people who don't get it, but there are many that do get it and sparking a glint of passion in 1 in a 100 people is well worth that alone.

For me having been dj'ing since 1990 and collecting records since 1986, and I am only just to this day finally down to about 20 rare records still on the wants list - but the wants list has been with me ever changing over time - the collecting bug is a difficult thing to get out of your blood.

Gordie you love your boxes, your tunes and you have an aesthetic appeal for the visual side hence your great walls - so in a way you are kinda taking the "graf" theme but instead of spraying walls with paint, your covering them awesome boxes and making your own statement - keep it up as long you have space, cash and the family is ok with it!
