Every time I see those boxes it reminds me of a 150 man carrying a 300 pound woman across the threshold.
Now if big ass Paul Bunyan size mothefuckers are sporting it it looks cool , but usually it looks like those tiny women posing with insanely huge Dido's lol
also that cammo ,come on man it reminds me of the fat Chick's at wal mart and a little ford f250 thrown in.
I'm no expert and I'll catch heat for it but goddamn .
sorry fellas I'll take my punishment now lol.

The FM tuner is part of the SD card/USB input interface. It’s an off the shelf part. (The original version of the Freestyle). Not sure if they’ve changed the part with the new models.

The ‘tuner’ is basically one single IC chip.

Interesting about the telescopic antenna issue - you see a lot of products for sale today with telescopic antennas.

I don’t doubt you’d have a bunch of man babies busting them and returning them demanding a refund.
Yeah, I think they are just trying to avoid the headache. I seem to remember Albert from Lasonic mention the same thing to me, albeit the i931 had the cheapest thinnest antenna ever made.

Still, if your gonna put an FM radio circuit on there, it should work.

Antenna rod or no antenna rod, a $5 tuner ain’t gonna give you the sensitivity you’ll get from a properly designed tuner. Those cheap tuners might work in a toy, but seriously, if someone pays $350-$400 for a “boombox”, and it’s brand new, it’s gotta work better than a 3-transistor hand held radio right? I mean forget the people angry at a broken rod antenna that they broke themselves, imagine the ire of a $350 broken tuner that don’t tune, straight outta the box? Microsoft might claim it’s a feature but come on, a bug is a bug.

Anyhow, some of you might remember on some older GM cars, the antenna is nothing more than a wire loop embedded in a window. In other words, that’s all it takes. Nobody says an antenna needs to be in the shape of a telescopic rod. How hard can it be to loop a wire inside the top edge of the cabinet? For all I know, maybe that’s what it’s got. In any case, I doubt that will help with the $5 tuner though. A midget is still a midget no matter how many dr. scholl shoe inserts are there.

I like what you said about the antenna Chris, and you are right it is true. Put a nice chrome telescoping antenna on a megablaster and these tards that don't care about taking responsibility or being a tad gentile with an antenna, they will be making warranty claims out the waaa-zooo. I'm confident I can make the signal a bit better on my own. I believe the tuner is just part of the package for the USB/BT board so it makes sense why they just advertise and it probably works decent somewhere.

All good, its a minor complaint but I like a lot of the changes for the V3 and was worth selling the SE for this.

The problem with using car stereo headunits in a boombox is the power consumption of the AB amplifier.

This baby is Class D!! :-) 40 Watts RMS x 4 into 4 ohms.

$199 and you’ll have all the features and performance you’ll ever need - plus with class D tech, you’ll have great battery life. :-)

Now this unit in a Bumpboxx would be awesome - mmmmm........ S T E R E O !!

I'm with you Norm, regardless of the issue, any feature on any product should work. The owner of the factory that I am working with on the Classic project, Oscar, is an amazing guy. Very detail orientated and I will have a talk regarding this. He is a solid problem solver and a clear thinker.

You guys are the "Field Tester's" in a sense and this information is invaluable.

If you end up adding an antenna and it improves things, please let us know.

Adding a car stereo is a possible fix, but (IMO) any time I have seen someone put a car stereo in a Boombox I just cringe. It just removes the "Essence" of the whole thing. It's like putting a V8 in a Datsun 260Z. Sure, it has all the power you could dream of but just ruin's the spirit of the machine (and the cornering). Again, just my opinion

I wish I could afford to build an all old school alpine car audio boombox , I can guarantee it would smoke the **** outta these new boxes and look good doing it. That **** would be big black and nasty and not to be ****ed with.

It sucks be because I have some awesome radios but the old alpine units kicked the bucket and the woofers have foam rot so I can't do **** lol.****ing alpine either they work or they don't work, no in between lol.

I want to see what this new bumpbox that Chris is working on looks like before I make any final judgments I think with the added evil characteristics the bump box should be a lot better version.

Someone should look at the DJ Tech's FM circuit, and see who made it, because that thing pulls in stations as well as any of my old-school boxes.
I agree. The DJ-Tech is just an all around good modern example of what was. Too bad they abandoned the market. Sounds great too!!

Ah Superduper.....I needed that laugh.  . At least the midget inside that huge box is surrounded by good company. If I lived closer to you I'd for sure let you evaluate my Bumpboxx. A man with your skill..heck I'd be pleased with just a signature on the box when I got it back

I had issues with my freestyle se, so exchanged and paid the difference for a V3 and am having issues with the amp chirping/ whining with no music playing. Having a hard time getting timely responses from bumpboxx. Anyone else had this issue? Have same complaint about the FM radio. Ran the antenna wire to the corner and its much better. Also why have EQ setting and no indication of which you're on? The Freestyle SE at least said which setting was on, not on the V3. Thinking of returning it and waiting to see if they up their quality.

Sorry to hear of your Bumpboxx dramas. I’d keep trying to get in touch with Bumpbpxx - they’ll sort it out for you.
