Hefty S&H probably means he sent it EMS. $300-$350 is probably standard for a bigger box. EMS have really good tracking, and our Post Office here are agents for that service.

I've had boxes arrive in 3 days from Japan using this service, although 5 days is the norm. EMS = 5-7 days to the US from Australia. Your biggest delay may be through US Customs.
