Thanks to all again for the wonderful comments. Glad to be part of the M70 club now
I agree Northerner. I usually also try and find a junker to keep my top prized units going. I will need to do that for my M70 as I have grown quite fond of it. My only thought now is...why did I wait so long? I should've saved up a long time ago and this should've been my first box
I finally finished detailing this box. I have it as good as I can get it. I didn't take before pictures when this arrived but it was average. I got to be the first to hear the case screws make that famous 'crack' sound when getting into it for the first time in 38 years. I have been polishing, fixing and detailing this thing while it's been playing. We've been multitasking around here
If I had to pick two things I don't like out of 40 things I do, it'd be the slider pots...not a fan even when they're working well. But in my situation I was able to get into the pot housing and carefully apply a light coat of dielectric grease to the sides of the metal housing for the white plastic slider to glide on and now it moves very well (passable). My other dislike is how you have to disassemble the entire box chassis to adjust tape speed. I didn't nail it the first go round because it ended up that my calibration tape was dragging, so I had to tear it down again and readjust with a new tape.
Only thing left is antennas. I only have 1 post and a sad looking aerial but after I get those, this beauty will be a show stopping time capsule.
At times it was stressful and tedious but when I turn the volume up, it makes it all worth while. It might not be everyone's cup of tea but to me, this box is a special machine....it really is. It's the right size, right power, right features, right sound, built like a tank and is fairly easy to work on.
I agree with Eric. This should be one of the last to go in any collection and only in an act of desperation.
Hoping someone is able to sell me some aerials with posts. At that point this will be a well preserved survivor.
In addition, blu_fuz is sending me a rainbow strap. That'll be the cherry on top. Can't wait.
Right now it's Mötley Crüe time.
