Another example of how not to pack a heavy + fragile boombox

I love coming home to a large box on the front step, but then when I see it looks rather small for what should be a large boombox, and the box is made of several old beat up boxes, I get real nervous. Here's what came through yesterday. Ya wonder what would happen when you literally have no bubble wrap over such parts as the tape decks and speakers, well they get totally beat to sh*t. Lovely. I've never had to deal with this situation before. I would assume the first step would be to try to get my money back from the sender and return the item, after that do I pursue paypal as it was used for the ebay purchase. Luckily it wasn't real pricey but I'm not looking forward to the headache of trying to resolve it. Ick. And I might shed a tear for any vintage box to meet such a fate from something as silly as terrible packaging.

YEP I have seen this a few times before  so sorry for your loss due to damage...I Have learned lately to not even trust any large box for shipment unless its a small one maybe. If I am going to purchase larger I look to try and pick it up ;-)

I feel for ya, I can't believe how people don't see how modern electronics are packaged and then apply that to older ones that are a lot heavier, and need a bit more care!

Argh, that really hurts :'-(
Would have been such a nice box.
But these units are very fragile.
And the "packing" is simply  :annoyed:

It's a Tecsonic MX-900 as seen here 3 seconds in, but in black...

Not the best box in the world, but a nice big one to add to the collection. And speaking of shipping damage and nice big ones, I also had a TC999 shipped to me with very minimal packaging and I was freaked. I was estatic to see it was all good and working and all. Till the 2nd time I look at it and I see it arrived with a cracked 'leg'. Not nearly as bad as the Tecsonic of course and with some good repair it will barely be noticaible in, but still heartbreaking to have happen. Of course this unit costs a good amount more than the other one, and I'm trying to see how I might resolve that as well. Normally don't you either return the product and ask for full refund? if not that, then ask for partial refund to cover the loss of value? After that do you bring it up with ebay/paypal and try for a refund? Sucks.

Of course whenever I win a box via ebay, I make sure to ask/tell the seller how to properly package and pad my purchase. Of course they don't always listen too well, which is quite crazy if they are sending something that's hundreds of dollars and known to be 30 year old cheap plastic that also weighs a ton. So that thin cardboard and 1 layer of bubblewrap isn't gonna cut it like it might when sending a cd.

The TC999 leg as arrived at my house as it was minimally packaged. AAARRGGG!!!!!!

The Lasonic TRC-951 that showed up damaged at my house USPS paid the full insurance value + the shipping ($230 total) and they let me KEEP the box.

Sure, I own a "repaired" case boombox, but the electronics are perfect and only the rear case was damaged luckily. So I came out about $50 ahead on that boombox because I paid $180 shipped for it  .

My Victor M70 was another story, not sure if it was because of the international shipping or what but I was only able to work with the seller about trying to get some money back to cover repair costs of the case. I bought that for $150 + $80 international shipping and I was refunded the shipping charges. So total out of pocket was $150  . Fully working and only a small piece of the back case broke loose and a few cracks that will easily be repaired.

The Lasonic TRC-922 I have also had the transformer break loose inside. The electronics took a beating and the result is a parts box. I only paid $24 + $10 shipping for it and the seller refunded $20..... Very bummed that it was damaged but it was pretty beat up before shipping and at least it didn't cost me much and I was able to put the 922's good antennas on my 975, so it was worth it just for that  .

I have had UPS refund up to $100 on other things and they let you keep whatever the item is. Anything over that $100 they like to take it from you.

FedEX, I'm not sure what they do. I never ship with them.

Damn thats really sucks. Im not goin to buy a box from ebay :nonono: . When im buying from some strange sellers i insist to be shipped whit "pay by delivery" and option to check the goods. Always insist for insurance too and im paying the extra money for that. That way the sellers know that if the box is coming broke is just his big lost. Im paying just for delivery and insurance. And the seller is in 100% lost and should pay for return sending as well. And guess what? The sellers are packing really carefully that way, exact like ive told em  . I cant believe that there are such idiots. I was workin in DHL depot and i know how i was trowing the stuff  . When the package was whit special sticker and tape for fragile (just packages whit insurance have that) we were so careful. If we broke something from this boxes we were in trouble. And all of this packages were really good made. Some sellers are just trying to save some 10 bucks for extra packaging materials. Cheap morons.
Dude sorry about your bad luck. Fingers crossed for all is going to finish good and to find the same bbox whit better luck. Sadly you dont have this beauty tough.

Unbelievable. When you get a box for a good price i reckon people who sell it think it's only worth like $50 so I wont bother packing that well. If you paid $500 for it I bet people would try a bit harder.
My conion was the best packed box I've ever got. The seller even called me and asked me how I wanted it packed. But, again, it cost me big $$$$'s
I feel for you man...........

:-O :-/

I'm speechless and I feel for you man.

I've been thinking about something,
are the all boomboxes which is not in our members possession will ended up broken like this do to bad packaging? :hmmm:
I mean, just imagine that every second boombox which is sent by mail to be damaged,
which boombox will remain to be sold or purchased for the next 10 or 20 years

Such a shame :-/
I recently got my first ridiculously badly packed boomer. It was packed even worse than this. Almost no protection at all. But her ein Germany I think shipping is a little safer. In such a relatively small country the odysseey is simply a lot shorter. I was friggin' pissed nonetheless. It's just so unnecessary.

Thoroughly awful... hope you can get some monetary compensation.... shame theres no emotional compensation for having to go through that terrible unpacking experience.

Good luck, M40dotcom.

Rock On.

Its been awhile for me buying anything but I see some things never change. Another one bites the dust. Its even worse when you send them an email ahead of time about your concerns and make recommendations on how to pack it and you get the usual response "yeah yeah yeah I know what the fk im doing, blah blah blah"

to minimize still more agony --

you need to get all this over with -- like NOW !!

its possible --
that the seller --as soon as he sees your photos -
will send you a fast 100% refund -

but --a moron who packs like that - :dunce:
may not even reply --

give him 24 hours -- NO LONGER
then file the ebay/paypal claim -

then TRY to forget about it---
and just let paypal do their job -
you WILL get your money back
