The more I see all these amazing collections, the more depressed I get and I start thinking I'll never be able to get all the grails I'm after.
It seems a while back before I ever got into this, these boxes were more available and at better prices. It seems they keep growing and growing in price and I'll never be able to afford them without selling a kidney, lol

I got really lucky with my Conion as someone owed me the money and I don't think that situation will ever happen again, lol! I guess I should just be satisfied that I found my personal grail from my late teens. I really didn't think I'd ever get one in full working order, let alone with the box and user's manual, lol!

Just ranting I guess - lol!

Hahah, Verucca shall have NO hot blasters!

It's been said many times, but you do the work and the radios will come. Gotta build up your positive blasterkarma!
Making flyers to put up around your town/city, telling absolutely EVERYone you know that you collect, trawling places regualarly.
Eventually they will come!

But patience is the key. Tell someone you're looking for boomboxes and then give them 6 months to a year to come up with one.

Also, you can't be picky and you need to stress you'll take them in ANY condition. Most casuals think it's broken beyond repair if theres
some crackle in the volume control or if a belt has gone. You need to stress that you can fix them, I find people are far less receptive if you
don't tell them this straight off the bat as they seem to only look for mint/new ones. It's not like you'll get junk either, most boxes can be cleaned
and restored with a minimum of effort.

It's all about the blasterkarma, Bill. Put it out there and the work will pay off!! Reward for effort, brother... and patience!!

Rock On.

I know what you are saying about the prices keep going up. I have been looking for ever to find a mint M70 at a decent price I can afford. Thats never going to happen....at least not in my lifetime and my luck. If its not mint I'm really not interested, maybe I am too picky but that is what I want, I am glad I waited and found the mint M70 I just bought, it cost me an arm and a leg, much more than I wanted to spend but it brings back the memories of the eighties when I was a kid walking the streets with my M70 which is priceless.....but I will hold on to it forever. Half the fun is all in the search.

I used to think that as well. I started posting on Stereo2go a few days after it was started in October 2003.
I wanted an Aiwa CS880 so bad I could taste it. I wanted on when I was back in High school and it took me until 2008 to get one.
Now I'm after a JVC M90. I see them all the time here and on Ebay and I've seen and played with both of Spud's M90's
I want one,but I'm never going to pay the ridiculous prices that M90's bring.......

It's never too late, Bill. When I first joined S2G, at the end of 2006, I only had one boombox and that was a Sanyo M9935 that I had found two years prior. Now, I almost have too many!  Thank goodness my dad lets me use his garage for partial storage. Give it time and just enjoy the ride. :sin:

I totally agree! Even if the search takes years.

Make sure that people on the site are aware of what you want.

I was desperate for a rising 20/20 and, out of the blue one morning, a member offered me one in fantastic condition at a great price. :-D

I had only been seriously looking for one for about 2 months (maybe I was lucky). People like Blasterpunk and Lopez have some great deals

I see you're in New Jersey Bill? I would kill to be that close to NYC, there must be some regular Trash/Flea markets within a couple hours drive?

The fliers suggestion is a good one, I've put fliers out and scored a reel to reel, lots of good chrome and metal cassettes as well, also try advertising on Craigslist for your area, all the above suggestions are good as well, I've only been collecting since May last year, and have scored a few good blasters. Some I've bought on Yahoo Auctions Japan, if the air freight doesn't scare you too much...

That's probably the only place you're going to score a GF-1000, as they were a Japanese model only.

Most of these huge enviable collections took many many years to collect. Some of the boxes might've been owned decades ago. If was easy to amass such impressive collections in months, then everyone would have them. I think very few of us today would say we don't even today see another box now and then that we wish we could have. As for prices going up, yeah. But actually, the past 2 years or so, they seemed to have come down signficantly so from that perspective, I would say this is a very good time. I recall it wasn't all that long ago when some of these boomboxes were costing 2 to 3 times as much. Comparing back 5 or 10 years isn't the way to go. We should look forward and not backwards.

When I was young, I wished time would pass faster so I could grow up. Now, I wish time would slow down and perhaps even go backwards. So don't be in such a hurry. Take your time to build your collection and so you can enjoy it. Stop and smell the roses. If you are persistent, your collection will grow and get there. My 2 cents.

I never thought I would have what I have either.... you will get there - If you don't have a crap ton of moola then you have to wait for the deals that pop up and jump when you have the chance.

I have missed out on 2 M90s for $250 for each...... still hunting, but bitter about the ones I missed out on. M70s - oh boy, that's another story. Bid as high as I could on over 20 of them and lost each auction because they go for over double what I want to pay. One day a buy-it-now popped up for a little more than I was wanting but I knew it wouldn't be that low again for a long time so I pulled the trigger. Same for my 777Z and 777H. Right place, right time - that's all. You will get there.

Until then,

ROCK ON!

Bill, I also agree with the guys  It will come..I remember when I 1st started and I really wanted my alltime bbx from when I was a teen and I could not remember the name, I only had an idea of the looks  Then I was on ebay and I saw a randix bbx for sale with 8 hours or so left and only 1 bid at maybe $40 :hmmm: It looked just like the one i had as a teen but I was not 100% because there seemed to be differences but in the height of it I decided to bid.. I wanted to cap myself but I really wanted this box :-O Well me being an amature I did not figure someone else wanted it too and beat my bid by $1 at the end...I was so frustrated and I never thought i would find my box :'-( Well I was on s2g forum and later was able to bid on another simular box from Germany and won it  I was amazed but then it happened while I was on s2g i had saw the brand new looking CEC that jovie had and that was the exact box i purchased from Zayer many moons ago :-D Well long story short i finally got it plus a few others so now I am mystified :-D :w00t: :w00t:

I agree with everything above. Also, your in the right community. This is a great place to meet people and as you become friends with them you may find, as I have, that someone may have a radio they were thinking about selling, it hasn't been listed for sale yet and you get the first shot at it.

I bought a Lasonic TRC-935 from a member here and then found out he had a 975 he was thinking of selling. I was given first dibs and I am listening to that 975 right now! I'm not going to lie to you, it took more than a year here and over 1,000 post's. But I have many of my dream blasters right now! By no means do I have a massive collection, but I'm still a happy MoFo.

Blasterkarma and a positive hopeful attitude is the way to success with anything and if that doesn't work, standing in the street screaming "I WANT MY RADIO" at the top of your lungs would be my next step!
   :w00t: :w00t:

dude don't give up!! I came into this about three months ago and look at my list!! I've gotten this far thanks in part to the wonderful guys/gals that are on tis site. I mean check it out, I never thought i'd be buying a radio from Australia!!! But I did! If you want something in particular I'm sure somebody on this site can help you. I've gotten help from L Lopez (aka Mike) and man it's been fun ever since. My list is getting smaller and smaller by the day. Granted I don't think i'll get them all right away but that's the fun part. The anticipation is crazy but fun! So hang in there. The last radio I thought I was ever gonna get was the 767 and now it's my fav. even over my Conion!!! :-O   :stereo: :breakdance: Test other radios you'd be surprised what ya might like. Mike let me play with a Panasonic 5350 and now I want one. Don't get discouraged. If you wanna meet up one day to go to Mike's house hit him up and bring some cash and I guarantee you'll leave with something. I know every time I go there my list grows!! Hit me up and we'll hang. See you soon!

The willingness to spend the money and having luck on your side has gotten me most of my collection. I found my first M70 for $100 BIN on ebay, that was pure luck...on the other hand I spent $725 on my M90, I have no regrets on either purchase but both were found by different means. Be patient and keep hunting, your collection will definitely grow!!

Wow thanks guys! I needed some inspiration and all these replies did the job for sure!

I did post in the "wanted" section here and I have a short list in my signature. I'll have to check out the japanese yahoo ads too, thanks!

Like I said, I can't wait for spring to head out to flea markets near me and in NYC.

Thanks!!
