I think I'll give the nod to the 9994, if a good example can be found (hard to find with good working sensitive tuners) for stereo separation and high detail clarity. The TPR-990 is a tank. Literally. Feels like a bowling ball. Sound is nice warm and balanced but probably not as powerful as the M9994. I give the nod to the Aiwa on the cassette deck, provided once again, that you have a good working example. It plays metal tapes and has dolby NR. The Sanyo deck leaves a lot to be desired -- is clunky and the FF is notoriously slow compared to RW to where a little bit of age and it won't want to FF a 90 min tape near the end. I've also found that the M9994 decks have a complicated and poor belting system so it requires more maintenance than other models that use a simpler flat belt design.

Looks -- M9994.
Power -- M9994.
Rarity -- Aiwa.
Highs, clarity, separation -- M9994.
Warmth of sound -- Aiwa.
Tuner dial design -- M9994, slam dunk (dem green lights are the bomb)
Cassette deck -- Aiwa (in spite of all the negs, primarily due to deck deemed too complicated to repair).

Which one do I prefer? :hmmm: :hmmm: ........................................................................ BOTH! :w00t:

The aiwa deck does have really cool directional led indicators when in operation, I almost want to place a tape in motion even when listening to the radio, just so I could see the cool arrow.  :w00t:

thanks for pointing that feature out -
having never seen one with a working deck....
never knew about it :dunce: :-D

C'mon now! MY lens was not buttered so you shouldn't have had any trouble seeing the led indicator in the second pic.

Well, Don. It was pretty easy to come to that conclusion. Since RBJ practically demanded I pull out my Aiwa and take a listen.

Hey! Someone messed with the grills. The left one has vertical striations. The right one has diagonal striations.

It's amazing how a little butter on the lens always does the trick to magically make blems disappear.
