I bought this Aiwa CS-660 because the seller called it "mint in the original box." When it first showed up, I thought I'd been snockered with an incorrect box (correct information written by hand after the old info was crossed out with a marker) and a nameplate with the specs changed by someone's typewritten stickers. (Fortunately, the boombox itself is actually very nice.)
But, after thinking about it for a while, I began to wonder if maybe the outer box might really be the original, with the info changed (albeit sloppily) at the factory to match the boomer inside. And the boomer inside is a factory sample, with Singapore specs taped over the old Japan specs on the nameplate when production moved from Japan to Singapore, all of which was intended to be sent to Underwriters Labs in the U.S. for safety certification. That would explain the references to "UL Application" on the box and the "UL" in the Japanese writing on the sticker on the top flap.
I'm hoping I'm right, because that would mean this CS-660 is a real one-of-a-kind rarity. What do you think?
