Your TDK 3 speaker is the guy in red. The Aiwa is the other guy.gsbadbmr said:NICE JOB HARDMEN, you made the Aiwa look amazing![]()
I haven't posted in awhile...i just read this thread and i am now VERY curious about this Aiwa...for me it's not the prettiest box, but apparently it sounds fantastic...i think it may very well be the next box i buy...but i will let SLO buy one first in case it SUCKS![]()
I use my TDK 3 speaker box a lot in the summer at my house for parties (i love it)...so if this Aiwa is "better" i want it![]()
You certainly have no regrets for your purchase, belive me!SLO said:Hey hardmen I cant wait to get this and hear it for myself, I would have loved to hear one 1st before buying, but honestly I had never heard more than half of my collection before actually purchasing Lol, so I figure why not. If my favorite music sounds good pumping out of something, I gotta have it.
That big guy would be a GR "ATE" candidate for the new A&E TV series "from fit to fat to fit"Martin123 said:Your TDK 3 speaker is the guy in red. The Aiwa is the other guy.

It's like I say before, they not sound like "a boombox"... ...they REALLY sounds like a home stereo system, but lightweight and on the go, with batteries!
Even kabooms not have that punch and controlled bass!!
Just share your opinion with us, when arrives!
Cheers.
-GZ- said:I'm sure it sounds great...and it really looks pretty decent...but I'm not shelling out that kind of money on a "boombox" until it actually starts looking like a boombox.
For mobile purposes and functionality...the rectangular prism is the way a boombox is supposed to be built. That shape was used for 20 years for a reason.
If it ain't a box....its a mini stereo. No disrespect intended at all. They put handles on eggs too but ya really didn't see people carrying those around.
As far as design goes....that iHome boombox is as close as its gotten recently.
You can put all this new technology in a box that looks like an m90 or c100 with LEDs and digital readouts and whatever you want....it'll sell and be more functional and desirable than anything on the market....even for the youngins who've never seen a classic boomer.
Well put, jimmy. The price point is definitely reasonable...if not down right cheap compared to our vintage boomers' original msrps.jimmyjimmy19702010 said:The EXOS-9 is that shape because it has to be to have enough 'volume of air' behind the 6 inch driver to allow it to drop the bass. I don't think anyone would be raving about the sound quality of the Exos-9 if they had been forced to shape it like a vintage 1 piece - (Wide, shallow & upright).
I'm actually amazed at how cheap these Exos-9s are considering the performance. Sure, internally they wouldn't be built like an M90 but consider the $$$s. An Exos-9 will set you back around $299 USD. Consider that today's $299 is equivalent to around $105 in 1980.
What kind of Boombox could you have bought back then for $105?
The only question mark regarding these modern devices is the batteries. Sure the Exos-9 has a removable battery (a very good thing), but what happens 2-4 years down the track when it won't hold a charge (like your 4 year old IPhone).
The reborn Aiwa maybe around for a long time and may offer replacement packs but for how long? Maybe it's a moot point as the modern consumer probably doesn't care as a new model will gain their attention long before the old models' battery dies.
Anyway, Exos-9 owners get out there and do some real 'booming'!

I hear what you're saying. Sure, big speakers look awesome particularly in a small box but there is one rule in speaker box design you can't ignore - big speakers need big cabinets to allow them to pump bass.-GZ- said:Well put, jimmy. Just makes me wonder why our our other brother jimmy (brklyn sound) is able to throw them beautiful silver alpines in his 777, without modifying the size of the box, and make it sound 10 times better.
I'm pretty sure a company like Aiwa, backed by Sony, is quite capable of making or buying a 6", 8", or even 10" driver capable of dominating in a smaller space without having to "compromise" design.
'Talking sex to a virgin'!! Nice one!!Martin123 said:Aiwa is making a comeback from right here in the USA and I think its pretty cool when you take the grills off. It resembles the Aiwa 880. My passion is boomboxes.Ugh they are sooooo sexy. But I wouldnt take my M90 to the park to play some basketball. I wouldnt be able to focus on thr game. But if I can take a box that sounds like nothing you have heard before. You can hear from 600 meters away and sounds like a bose with 12 inch subwoofers. Then take it home and use it as a home theatre speaker. You must hear to know what Im talking about. Its like talking sex to a virgin![]()
They aren't affiliated with Sony anymore. Sony eliminated Aiwa back in 2005 I think, and it stayed dead until now. They're a totally new company now.-GZ- said:Well put, jimmy. The price point is definitely reasonable...if not down right cheap compared to our vintage boomers' original msrps.
