A possible solution there is to use a belt with a thicker wall. This will up the speed. You have to make sure you don't up the tension on the pulleys at the same time though.

Hello dubout, the motor itself on GF9696 have a trimmer, inserting a screwdriver inside and turning the pot allows to calibrate the speed internally. About your GF9494, you can swap out the original motor with a New Old Stock Matsushita MMI 12 volt CW motor. I have successfully installed one on my Sharp GF9090. It is fully adjustable with a trimmer to adjust the speed on the top. It can be obtained via AliExpress. https://a.aliexpress.com/_EwwA6K8

Both extremely helpful comments, guys, thank you! I will go for the adjustable motor first but I didn't know about the differences in thicker / thinner belts. I might try that on my Sanyo M9916L which has the same problem (unadjustable motor).

Yeah those are NOT new old stock matsushita motors. They are low quality Chinese copies. Ask member transistorized about his experience with those. Matsushita products were made in Japan, not in China. Anything from China bazaar (aka aliexpress) is 99.99% suspect.
Might be. But it works perfectly fine on my GF9090. They aren't the mabuchi copied ones. Not sure how good are they in terms of reliability, but for 4.5$ each it is a great deal.
The motor's speed hasn't deviate over two months since I installed it, so, I don't see why not using one. It is a better option than the 40+ year old one.

This is not my daily box so the motor won't have to work too much. But it sure will be nice to be able to listen to a cassette now and then in the right speed.

Okay back at my post. So today, I've swapped out the old Sharp Redeh oem head with a NOS USSR Sendust head. The audible difference is highly noticeable. The reproduction of the high frequencies is outstanding. (The one next to the oem head is another sendust head out of 1993, the installed one is out of 1991).
