Ok, I'll say this, and then I won't revisit this thread again.
Here is the ingredients in the McRib as described by McDonalds. The patty is basically just a ground pork patty. This thing probably has less ingredients than most other stuff. If you don't believe me, go to the supermarket and pick up a package of ground sausage and read the ingredients list. Probably about 80 ingredients long, most stuff you can't pronounce. I was surprised when I saw this, raw pork sausage and ingredients list long as a snickers bar. As for restructured meat, doesn't anyone ever eat hot dogs, hot links, processed ham, chili or another other meat that isn't obviously from a filet? Unless you are getting kosher meat (like Hebrew national) or something, guess what, there's far more you've eaten that you didn't know about. Frankly, I'd rather eat parts of a real animal than unpronounceable chemicals and additives. Is a ribeye steak off the grill better? You bet. Is it practical to eat that 3 times a day? You tell me. In fact, I'll bet that after a week of steak 3 times/day, you'll be begging for a hot dog filled with all kinds of heart, tongue, whatever. Either that or you'll become a vegetarian. Wikipedia (which is one source of supposed use of "restructured" meat is from a 1995 article which states that the McRib is made of mostly pork shoulder meat). Who knows if the process is still the same from 1995. Things change a lot. Oh and what about taco meat? Do you think that's made of ground NY steak? I have news for you, it's not. Not only that, I have never been able to duplicate the texture of restaurant taco meat from fresh ground beef. There's definitely some unknown additives or ingredients. But you know what, if it tastes good and is nutritious, I'll probably eat it.

As for McDonald's healthy alternatives, so are you just going to sit at the table and have the white meat chicken sandwich and a glass of water? Or are you going to have that with a side of fries. And a coke. Maybe a shake, apple pie, McFlurry or Frappie? And what exactly about the McRib is unhealthy? Because we aren't talking about the pink slime McNuggets here.
So McDonalds is soooo gross that we have to seek out Wendy's In n Out, 5 guys? Isn't Wendy's patties square and isn't there something bad about "formed, shaped" patties? And McDonalds is everywhere, probably one down the street. 5 guys, where's that? 50 miles away? Every time I want a burger, I drive 50 miles? Or in N out, where's that? Oh yeah, that's right, doesn't exist anywhere around here. But yeah, I remember, I used to eat there when my kids insisted 1900 miles away where they are plentiful. Here's what I remember about that, 4 menu items (give or take).... burger, choice of cheese and/or number of patties, fries, the greasiest burgers this side of a lard farm, you know, the kind even the buns are dripping with fat, although admittedly, greasy burgers are certainly appealing, as long as "healthy" isn't in the equation. And the fries, yes I see them chop them so they would appear to be fresh, but they taste like chalk to me. Every other joint serves better fries to my palette. I don't know what they do to them, whether it's the choice of oil or after treatments, but yes, the fries are chalky.
My bottom line is this... different strokes for different folks. Somebody has eaten (and maybe even likes the McRib). If it (and any other food fare) is not right for you, that's fine. But nobody likes to read that the meal they just ate is disgusting and looks soiled. Heck, to my eyes, Wendy's chili, the clam chowder you ate last night, the animal fries at your In N Out.... well those are disgusting and looks like upchuck and barf if not soiled... So how about this, shall we change this thread into a race to the bottom instead so we can start using interesting and creative analogies for all the food we disagree with out there? Tell me your favorite fare, I'm sure I can think of something interesting to insult your dinner. Look, not every gross vile or other non-mutual feeling needs to be said, even if you feel that way. Respect goes a long way. I'm just saying... you don't make friends by telling them the meal they just ate is disgusting. Do that to your non-friends so they remain that way.
