hey guy's im starting this thread here..but i really wanted to start this in general chat but you get the idea....about a week or so before i left for florida a bueatiful 767E was up for auction on ebay from china .. well i saw all the pic and i said wow this one really looks good in the pics so i hit the bin and i thought the rest was history truly belived it was gonna make a great bithday gift ...was i wrong.since i joined this forum i have allways read about the people who get lucky with china shipment and the people who dont get lucky..i one of those unlucky people..I could't wait to go home and open the box and when i did my heart skipped a beat..it looked like it was droped from a 6th floor apt building :'-( :'-( ... any how i contacted the seller keeping in mind how hard it is to get back money on these things from oversea's besides i really want this to work out for me..so i contacted the seller and he refunded me a price that i thought was fair .he is also shipping me a rear cover for this radio so i can begin to restore this grail...so after i took this thing all apart to see if it had internal damage none was visible so i powered it up and it still worked.however the amp only powers 3 speakers the one on the bad side of the box dead...so rather than screw it up it is now in the hands of my tech.and im confident he will fix this for me ..so i have a crack on the side of the front cassing all of the cassing screw posts are good here are some of the pics

Looks like a project alright. Lets hope the new back cover comes in good shape.

Are these Chinese bought boomboxes original from the 80's? Same as what you would find over here or are they copies like stated on some online auctions? Does anyone know where they come from is there an old warehouse full of them or shipped from Japan???

anyone know or guess why these big gf models get cracked in shipping more than any other box ??

like --those wimpy THIN plastic discolites get shipped around the world !!
i sent one to glue in australia ---it landed safely

and more big lasonic 931s get shipped than ANY other box in the world -- right ?
---------------------------

so at this moment hemiguy//frank has my big gf --
and one of us is gonna drive it --300 miles round trip -
just to protect it :-O

I'm betting that special blend of polymers deteriorate just with age in the plastics of the big Sharp GF series boxes. That combined with their weight and poor packing for shipments is all to blame.

I also had to learn my lesson the hard way.
My GF777 looked just like this when it arrived and one side of the speakers was completely dead :sadno:
After spending almost two months with my tech, one speaker still did not work :sadno: .
I hope you get better luck with yours.

The moral of the story: Don't buy from China! Spending all that money in a casino is more fun and you might probably even win something.

every single one of my big gf`s has had damage to this are...(rear cover , right hand side) and i mean every single one 767 777 999 1000. i am thinking it is something to do with the transformer being located on that side of the box....allways the same side........and max, it even happens when you ship them within your own country.............moral is.............collect it yourself

remember this

hey max ....I think these boxes were taken back buy the manufactuer back in the day due to the problems that the service centers could not fix..because each and every one has issues with output or a bad board or two...so rather than fix the manufacuter replaced it probbaly for cost reasons.so all these went back to them and they were stored awaiting refurbishing or sold for parts who really knows...one of my 777 had alot of issues no balance would not record no stereo light..etc since being serviced my tech was able to repair but it was alot of $bread to fix ....so the moral of the story is i will never make this mistake again

Wow :-O I'm sorry to hear that Jimmy. I'm glad the seller is shipping you another rear panel. You'll get her up and running soon enough. ;-)
