5 pin din socket line in connection

Just scored a nice box with line in function, can't see how this will work? as it only has the 5 pin rec play socket for connection. Any help here will be much appreciated.

Do you have a DIN cable? I have several boxes with DIN and they work fine, it just depends how the box is wired. Some are wired in such a way that you need to press Record (or Record + Play) to hear the music.

I don't have a din cable Reli, is that a 5 pin cable with a normal jack at the other end? I would imagine if I can get the right cable then I should not need to press record as it says Line in on the selector switch.

Yeh I've got a couple with line in that need a DIN plug...right cable and it works fine

The sound level lower than RCAs. It's a bummer with some of the European spec JVC and Aiwas.

Sometimes it's just a line in, but other times it serves as both line in and line out (like my Sankei)

Should sound the same, just maybe a bit softer, but that's what the volume knob is for.

I used a DIN plug for my AIWA 990 & it has just as much gain as an RCA plug so I bet a lot of you guys are piggybacking off the line out & therefore it sounds muted. Most DIN's are BOTH line in & line out so if you connect to the wrong set of RCA's off the DIN cable you will be doing the same thing as plugging your RCA's to the LINE OUt but still get a muted, flat signal & less than great sound....

Hope this clarifies things & dispels the DIN is softer myth....

Not sure I understand. With DIN there's only one way to insert the plug. And the other end of the cable is a 3.5mm that goes into my mp3 player.

I did the comparison on an Aiwa 660E (din only) and 660H (proper RCA line-in)
The 660H was clearly louder than the din only model.
