DON'T CARE
I know I can connect my stupid smart phone to any of these "Things" to make playback easy
DON'T CARE
I know the sound quality is far superior, thanks to preprogrammed digital EQ's (up for debate)
DON'T CARE
I know pound for pound that these little footballs are louder than most if not all of my classic 80's blasters
DON'T CARE
If I have to spend $500 on batteries for ALL of my collection, wreck my back and drag them all out to the park and meticulously wire them all together JUST TO BE LOUDER than one of these new BURNT TURDS, then I will BECAUSE STYLE means more to me than "Audiophile" sound quality or "Hipster New Tech".
I would rather grind up my collection with a blender and taken them as an enima than walk down the street with this Piece of Shait!![]()
If I had this pile of Crap on my shoulder, aim for the radio SHOOT ME IN THE HEAD!

Your posts are the best! You bring not only deep thought and insight but also a sense of humor that is second to none! Your line about "grinding up your collection and taking it as an enema" rather than carrying one of those "best boomboxes of 2015" was just brilliant. I believe Shakespeare himself would give you two thumbs up for that metaphor!Lasonic TRC-920 said:I guess the real question is...

Rob? He's dedicated to that sort of thing. Me, I have lots of tapes and even now will download my tunes in top quality FLAC which then goes not onto CDs but to new cassette tapes which can demonstrate just how good a sound quality can be achieved by high end decks and things from Denmark with eccentric looks. But I undermine my commitment to anal retentivity by also making copies to SD card and USB pen drive for playing in the cars. Dammit, so close!jimmyjimmy19702010 said:.......Who here honestly only plays tapes and deliberately ignores the Line In facility just so they can truly remain old school?![]()
Honestly it all makes sense. Very few people use booomboxes the way we used to. There are basically 3 kinds of people- folks who go into their own world via Ipods & Mp3 players with huge headphones and those who buy high end car audio systems to let the world here. In fact that was my transition; I went from being a kid who always had a boombox to an 18 year old with Cerwin Vega 12 inch woofers in by trunk. In theory I was trying to accomplish the same thing. (now I’m back where I started-lolol)jimmyjimmy19702010 said:Surely Style and Flair is only part of the deal. If a manufacturer made a huge and cool looking blingy Boombox with modern electronics, big power, quality speakers and thus awesome sound, you'd be interested right?
And by the way, we're talking hypotheticals here - no manufacturer makes such a box. And I definately wasn't talking about a girly egg with matching microphone!

Thanks for the kind words, but I follow the founding fathers of this site and S2G who build the attitude, style, passion and community that we all have the privilege to enjoy!howie1976 said:Your posts are the best! I shared your posts with my wife and she said "Wow!" She also asked "what others had commented and did anyone disagree with you?" I told her that you are preaching to the choir. You are our Shepard and we are your flock!☺

And Chris, seriously? How can anyone be expected to hunt out the boombox in that first picture when the VW T3 Fastback in the image dominates in spite of there being some kid standing in the way of it?![]()
AND THERE YOU GO!static2000g said:Bottom line is they aren’t making boomboxes for US anymore.
And that's really it....jimmyjimmy19702010 said:Well Chris, I guess I'm not old school. Imagine If you were old school back in the eighties, you'd have been walking around cranking out 78s with a wind up gramma phone trying to look 'vintage'
But of course you weren't. You were young, you wanted the latest technology. You can't blame young people these days from wanting something new. We here all know the vintage gear is better built, cooler looking etc. but today is a throwaway society. The vast majority of people (including us) wouldn't go out and spend thousands (in today's money) on a new super well built boomer that will last 30 years - (even if it was an imaginary cool vintage style Boombox).
Manufacturers know this so that's why they don't make them anymore.

We, the people born between 1940-1989, are the blessed ones...
We are d awesome people. Our life is a living proof..........
We were never treated like a pack of animals to carry our books to school.
While playing and riding bicycle, we never bothered to wear helmets.
After school time we played until its dusk but never watched t-world (TV) by locking up ourselves in a room.
We played only with our real friends, not with NET friends.
If we ever felt thirsty, we used to drink tap water but never searched for bottled water.
We never got ill even after sharing the same juice with four friends.
We were never put on weight even after eating plate full of sweets and rice everyday.
Nothing happened to our feet even after roaming bare foot.
We never used any health supplements to keep ourselves healthy.
We used to create our own toys and play with them.
Our parents were not rich, they never ran behind money and wealth. They just searched for and gave only love.. not any worldly materials.
We stayed nearby to them so that they can communicate with us. Just one word by them was enough to communicate. hence we never required any mobile phones to communicate.
We never visited doctor when we got ill but the doctor visited us during our illness.
We never used to share our emotions just by emoticons in mobile phones.
We used to listen to the truth and voice of our conscience and used to write those things only in the letters, hence we never used to change our words.
We never had cellphones, DVDs, Play stations, XBoxes, video games, Personal computers, internet, but had small boomboxes and transistor radios, also had many real friends.
We used to visit our friend's home uncalled and enjoyed food with them. We never had to call them and ask their permission to visit their home.
Relatives were near to us so our hearts and souls were happy.
We may have been in Black and White photos but you can find good colourful memories in those photos........
excellent .. So true
