Picked these bad boys up for a song and dance. Both needed lots of help but I was able to conquer the impossible ;-)

First they both needed total cleaning inside and out and new belts. Cleaned all pots and switches :-). I straightened out and painted all speaker grills. The Sanyo I actually picked up just 7 miles from my sister house

Sanyo was pretty beat with paint specks all over but I got them all off. The aluminum isn't pretty but I managed to pound the largest dent on top trim out and it looks much better. The record light was always on and I narrowed it down to dirty record bar. Also when I was cleaning and rebelting deck I noticed two of the micro switches had broken plastic levers that not only extended it but also aids in shorting out through deck ground. All is fully working now but I ran into a small problem while cleaning. As a little reminder DON'T clean small parts in sink. Me as a dummy and not thinking I lost one of the small switch caps down drain. I tore the whole fn trap apart to find nothing. I thought I was screwed but Sean (Sazeus) is coming to the rescue. He still has parts from a Sanyo 9998 and the switch caps are an exact match. Thanks Bro :smooch: I have a cap on it now that I found in my parts and it looks good from far
:-D

JVC is a little used as well. First there was clanking on inside of box when I got it. Turned out it was parts to handle and one broken post. Not a big deal so all that's repaired  Deck was a whole other issue. After replacing belt I found the pinch roller to be to dry n hard. So I found a good one in my parts but it was a tiny bit taller. I used it anyway. Well I messed up  at about 4:00am while working on it super tired I tried to pop pin out. I couldn't get it out so I drilled off head and messed pin up. I'm such a dumb A$$. WARNING!!! Never work on boombox when tired!!! Well the other issue was both rims were different. One was larger so I had to use the one with the better pinch roller but now I I have another problem. The original had a larger hole for pin. So found a drill bit that was same size and drilled hole larger in rim. Then I found a nail that was same diameter as messed up pin. Cut nail to fit length and used a tiny amount of JB weld (love this stuff) to hold in place. I also had to readjust spring tension to make up for the little bit of a taller tire.

Went to test out deck and it sounded awful. It was running very slow and there is no speed adjustment on this model for motor. I did clean and lube capstan shaft so now what. Well the only motor I had in CW was a used 9v. I went and read what may or may not happen since its a 12v deck :hmmm: all day I racked my brain and even asked Norms opinion. Well it came down to if the 9v motor burns out its no big loss because honestly, when the heck am I ever going to need a 9v motor  well motor is in and speed control is adjusted and was listening to some Boss and it sounded pretty darn good. This is definitely an awesome carry around box

When possible, send me pics (macro pics) of the Swivel mic of he RC-550, I know how HARD to find that part and because of that, I try to make one myself, but need good pics.

Is your tape pitch knob on the 550 not original? Usually black aren't they?
You mean the fine tuning knob?
I've seen them in both black/chrome and all chrome. See here :-). Pics off web ;-)
