Sanyo Boombox

I recently was given a vintage sanyo boombox by my uncle. I turned it on and only the radio works. I investigated it and found the belts for the cassette player were bad.
I ordered and replaced those and put it back together. I now I have no sound from the radio or tape player! The exterior and interior of the unit is immaculate. The boards look basically brand new. All original capacitors appear to have no bulging or leaking. Sound works perfect from the 2 mic lines in when tested. The tape player works great now, just no sound. Stumped on this one...

Hi, yes, the headphone jack works only when the 2 mic lines are being used. The weird thing is the 4 band radio worked great prior to putting new belts in.

Did you go back inside to check the speaker wires? They often get pulled out by accident during re-assembly.

All 3 speaker wires are plugged in. The speakers work great, but only when the 2 mic in lines are being used.

Occam's razor suggests that the simplest explanation is that the fault is related to the disassembly and subsequent reassembly since that’s the common denominator in all this. I suggest you just retrace your steps. Another possibility is that the record playback and function switches may be dirty (oxidized) and the contacts intermittent.

Hi thank you for the reply. The model is a M-X320K. Radio worked prior to dissassembly. Played a cassette for a second and heard sound before it started eating a tape. First step was taking all screws out. Next step was unhooking 2 wire harnesses and main harness from the cassette player. Replaced belts in cassette mechanism and reinstalled all. Turned on power and no sound from cassette or radio.

Hi thank you for the reply. Yes, all switches were carefully cleaned today. Same results. No sound from tape player or 4 wave radio. Only sound in works.

Maybe the problem is with the cable connections.
Are you sure everything is connected correctly
and you haven't swapped some connections?
You should check them again.

Ok, thank you for referring the manual. I will check tomorrow. Yes, all connections are exactly as they were prior to the repair. I've checked many, many times now. I looked for the service manual for the 320 but have not found one yet.

You must check position of Record Switch Bar too.

In TAPE mode, and pressed Play, you must hear cassette playback.

No problem! There are 2 mic lines (left and right 3.5mm)on the back of the 320. These work great from an external source. However, there is no sound playing from the tape at all. The inside is like new, no dust, no oxidation whatsoever. The record switch bar is in perfect working order. The main issue is sound is not getting to the speakers from the cassette player or 4 band radio.
