It's gonna look great! and there's nothing better than a new coat a paint on a big boomer! Gotta love the sheen, like a fresh application of murrays pomade in the morning

hey goodman ....what did you replace the 777 speaker with..
would love to see some good replacement speakers for the 777
that have some bling and no clearence issues ...please share with us ...
This is very important question, but with many answers. :hmmm:
Some people use CAR speakers for replacement, just like this:
http://www.jbhifi.com.au/car-sound-gps-navigation/speakers/6-inch/
I restore this boombox for a friend.
He don't want to use the car speakers for replacement. 90% are made in China...
He preferred to find a quality HI-FI speakers for better sound and there was a problem:
HI-FI speakers are 5'' or 6.5''. The first are small and the second is large...
After much searching around the internet, we found good 5'' speakers - VISATON, made in Germany:

For technical information, these speakers matched exactly to our needs. :-)
In physical size, these speakers were smaller than we needed. :-/
Coming soon next steps of restoration...

What kind of paint did you use for front and back panels?
I used paint for plastic.
Boombox is painted with a spray gun. In the same way that cars are painted:
Previously complicated kit and then painted. Therefore, the result is so good.

I have just noticed that your are in Bulgaria. I was born in Russia but I have been living in USA for quite a while. Last week I spent some time checking boom-box related Russian web sites. I was surprised to learn that vintage boom boxes are rather popular there (among collectors). Very few people in USSR had boomboxes in 70s and 80s so I do not think that many people have any sentimental attachments to this stuff. Anyways, I wanted to mention that, to my surprise, Russian auction web site (molotok.ru) offers quite a wide variety of parts for boomboxes and GF-777 happen to be very popular in Russia. Prices for GF-777 itself are ridiculous (like this unit currently offered for $3 328 but the prices for parts are more reasonable. Here are a few examples:

Heads - $27 (http://molotok.ru/golovki-ot-sharp-gf-7 ... 00304.html)
Handle - $22 (http://molotok.ru/ruchka-sharp-gf-777-9 ... 46209.html)
Deck 2 key assembly - $44 (http://molotok.ru/00sharp-gf-777-klavis ... 85629.html)
Deck 1 key assembly - $44 (http://molotok.ru/sharp-gf-777-klavishi ... 85636.html)

These are "buy now" prices and the items could be had for less (these prices are actually also pretty high, I think). Obviously, this is not not ebay and buying from Russia might be tricky but it's there. On the other hand, it's probably cheaper and easier to buy non-working units for parts on ebay in USA or Europe.
