the volume control is at full volume on the right speaker when turned all the way down
i tried taking it out and cleaning it but it still does the same thing
it seems like it had old sticky grease in it or something
i noticed if i wiggle the post on the control there will be no sound at zero

i plugged some pc speakers with a volume control into the headphone jack so it won't be as loud when testing it & to not blow the original speakers.

it was working fine last year when i used it so I'm not sure what happened
i don't think i will be able to find a replacement knob because it's from 1994

It appears like the feelers in it is broken off. Did you open up the the volume pot? I would open it up carefully and inspect the inside carbon disc and feelers.
Those volume pots are not easy to find. I think Panasonic RX 5350 pot is also similar.

I took it apart but didn't see anything broken but maybe there could be. I was thinking of adding a different volume control somewhere else on the unit. Like one of the speaker controls they sell that you put in a wall. one side you hook to the amp and the other to the speakers. And just leave the original control where it sounds good and both channels play.

Hey Floyd that's got a loudness tap, I see seven pins.
A normal 6 pin pot will work but you'll have no bass at low volume.
These are very hard to find, almost easier to pillage a known junker for one.

If the speakers have RCA jacks then this should work.

According to Alps, the RK14 pots don't use the end pins (1 and 7). No loudness taps.
Only the five center pins are used, because GND is a shared pin.

Did you look at the item description for the third one you listed?
It shows that it has separate L/R GND pins, so only one pin is unused. Again, no midpoint taps.
