I unlocked this thread to give a little update. My original Duracell battery was dated 2016 and pretty much sh!t the bed after I let it sit for 6 months. It's been dead for over a year now and was getting real annoying that I couldn't unplug this from the camper to take down to the beach or pool with us.

Time to swap it out again. For about $24 on ebay I got another Duracell. I asked the seller what the date was on the battery and he said "I don't see a date code. These are FRESH, we just got them 3 weeks ago". I wanted a battery with a 2019/2020 date to make sure I was getting the most life out of the battery as I could. His definition of "fresh" is different than mine. Clear as day printed on the side sticker is 2018. A battery sitting on the shelf for 2 years is worse than a 2 year old battery that has had proper charging cycles. We will see how long this lasts.

The rear panel on the DJ Tech is metal and the two sided tape works really well from my original swap. Be careful trying to cut or pry the battery off so you don't bend the panel. Comparison picture at the bottom of the post to show how small the original battery is compared to the upgrade.

I'm ready for another summer of blasting.

That's excellent Blu. I am going to dig mine out. My first Duracell battery wet the bed by leaving it on trickle charge for a month solid. Now I just top it off once every few months. I hope it hangs in there better than my last one.

I am sure it was talked about on here in a group policy....but why are older threads being locked? Seems like it would save space on the forum to simply add to an existing topic. (Shrug)

I'm not sure why this thread was locked. Anyone else have a Duracell that lasted more than 2 years?

Anything without a comment from the last 12 months gets a lock, except for pinned threads.

I've had my DJ Tech plugged in ever since I put a new battery in it a few years ago. The charge light will start to blink every few days to keep it 100% Still works like a champ.

What kind of trickle charger were you using?
Hi Reli. I was never satisfied with my DJ-Tech's internal charging circuit so I wired an external jack and use a SLA wall adapter charger.

The model of my charger is a Tenergy TN600 smart charger that charges 6 and 12V lead acid batteries at 500mah

Oh so it's not a trickle charger?

People leave their motorcycle on trickle all winter, so that's why I was surprised it didn't work for you

According to the documentation, it states that it charges in 3 steps. Rapid, Absorption Charge and then finishes with a Float charge.

I'm not sure why but my last battery I left for a long while figuring that it would keep the battery topped off but I guess it dried it out or something because it would only run for 30 minutes.

So far this new battery is holding up well :-)

Just to add, my battery i replaced straight away with the bigger one and i charge mine up sporadically but it does sit for a few weeks between charges sometimes and my battery noticeably lasts much less now.

Time for me to order a new one and maybe i should be topping that sucker off more often?

Well, I got burned on that battery I bought last year on ebay. Because it was already at over 2 years on the shelf before I got it, it barely survived another year with me. I had the DJ Tech blasting at the beach a couple weekends ago and only lasted a couple hours. Real party pooper, I tell you what.... It isn't happening again.

I was going past a Batteries Plus and picked up a DEEP CYCLE version of the battery I had. Was about $45 with tax, yikes.

I don't want to be playing tunes at the lake this next week and have the boombox die again. I'll keep everyone updated on this one!

It's still worth the $45 every 3-5 years. Has way longer play time than D cells.

It has more to do with mobile phones etc i mean what do you do with you're $1000 phone when the battery dies in 3 years assuming it hasn't broken already
