Seller's message:
"reduced price from $500.00 to $350.00 because of the condition it was in"
:nonono:

LIAR!!!!!!!

Reduced price because he was originally asking $250 when I first contacted him.

I'm done talking with them. I escalated it to next level so that ebay can deal with them.

I have to agree with Max here. It doesn't look too bad for what you paid. Remember that minty ones cost $850 and sometimes higher. Plus shipping.

In the first pic, the lifting trim is pretty normal. If you ever buy an S90, you will see that they are almost all like that, and kinked/warped too. Same with the Goldstars. Not saying that it looks good and $350 shipped might be a little bit high, but I've seen worse sell for more.

The lower trim around the cassette sure doesn't look great. Pretty sure it's never going to be a mint one no matter how many parts you find.

AS for the decks not working. The guy shouldn't have lied. Cosmetic issues sure are subjective and hard to quantify but decks working or not is easy to ascertain. Good thing is that I'd prefer a non-working deck over a smashed up cabinet any day of the week. Anyhow, it's yours now and better to take whatever refund you can get and fix it up. Any Conion in the hands of a collector is far better than shipping it back to indifferent kids (and their moms) to butcher and wreck some more, thereby sending more valued grails to the great boombox resting place in the sky.

You have a right to be ticked off. :annoyed: But look at it this way, just as Norm and Max said you still got a great deal. Most of us paid over $500 for a Conion. I have seen them in much worse condition for more :-O I paid $650 for mine with both decks not working, radio stations barely coming in, and dirty as all hell. We all believe in you Joe and know you can bring one of them back to full life  In the meantime try to get a partial refund ;-)

You guys are right. And to clear things up, I'm not upset about the price I paid :nonono: , I am very happy with that . Like you said, worse condition sells for more sometimes :-/ .

The problem is the lies. If he would have just told me about the decks, the lower volume in the right side, and the glue/kinks to the front trim, this would have went very smooth. Sure I would have still been pissed that he didn't package it like I asked him to :nonono: , but I guess I'm lucky that it didn't get busted. He did put the shipping insurance on it, but again, with the horrible packing job there is no way that any shipping company would honor the insurance for damages  .

Right now, I'm content with whatever outcome. Refund or not, I understand why the Conion/Clairtone is really a BEAST that everyone is after  .

Last night I took this blaster to my local BAR and the bartender let me play my MP3 jams on it LOUD for over 4 hours! :breakdance: I never turned it up past 4 because it was loud enough to not be able to talk to your friends  .

I'm grateful to own it, I love it even the way it is, I got a great price, BUT I HATE BEING LIED TO!

It's all principal right now, not because I didn't like the price, it's so he doesn't do something like this again.

This sucker JAMS! :breakdance: :breakdance: :breakdance: :breakdance: :breakdance: :breakdance: :breakdance:

Looks like when you escalate your ebay case they don't do "partial refunds".

I got a long email about it but basically this is what it said:

In summary, since the boom box is more damaged than advertized and the seller did not help resolve the issue, I strongly recommend that you return the item to your seller to be able to receive a full refund. I have provided you with a return shipping label and have already uploaded the tracking number in the Resolution Center so that you can track the shipment. Although you are given 10 days or until September 9, 2011 to complete the return of the item, it would be best that you to do it in the next 3 days to expedite the process. Your refund will be immediately processed in 48 hours, once it is confirmed that the item was successfully received by your seller.

I think I am going to ship back the empty box just to piss him off a little........

I'm not sending the boombox back to that tool  :nonono:

SO, I wonder if I should contact someone at ebay just to see if there is ANY option besides sending it back or keeping it with no partial refund.....

Yeah, Bill - I was keeping track of your stories and it was nice to see that his smart ass got bit in the end

On a related note, I just bought a Helix HX-4635 for $300, am I crazy or smart for jumping on it? Have 2 Conion 100's, and from what I've seen the Conion/Helix/Clairtone's are all worth/collectable the same as they are 100% the same aside from branding. I don't have it in possession yet so we'll see what potential drama I may run into. I always assume the worst so I just pretend like I'm bringing the $300 to the casino. I might end up losing it all, or maybe double or triple my money with a little work/luck. :)

I at least feel a bit better that it's from a bit of a boom box collector, and just talking over all the specific of functionality and looks made me feel better. He took new full res photos I requested for me and is 100% on the responsive meter.

It's functional as far as it sounds great, radio works, aux in works, LED's and VU's work. So circuit board work and crap like that I assume.

Scratchy vol pot on usage, easy fix as I had terrible pots on Conion and they are 100% now
Missing mic mixing knob (at least he was open and told me the one he has on there is obviously from another box)
Missing tape A Door and spare tape tray (only things that really bug me)
Neither tape deck works (just repaired that on both my Conions so not worried about that at all)
Broken Ant tip on 1, broken Ant on the other (anyone ever find a place that sells a good replacement for these?)
Little discoloration and actually not to bad as far as scratches
It doesn't power off when you hit power button and alarm recently stopped working (any ideas??? I know the alarm and power are integrated but no sure what would cause that but maybe it's 1 fix to get both issues fixed)

So, with that all said, y'all think I'm crazy for dropping $300 on it? A working amp/speakers/radio/aux with this condition seems well work $300 for me. Just know the tape deck cover and spare tape tray are as impossible to find as a service manuel for it.

Just the the look in this photo and having the radio/AUX work is work $300 to me. I'm asking if that's a crack/scratch on the left side tuner glass, but it's not in previous pics from multiple angles he had, so I'm hoping it's a just lighting thing in the photo, or a polishable scratch not crack.

Some scratches but not too bad, knobs look nice aside from funny Mic Mixing replacement. Play button looks stuck and play head up, which I saw before in a Conion because the belts couldn't spin to allow the gearing to release when hitting 'stop'. Fixed that issue before.

I think a ninja sliced one Ant off.

I've seen worse discoloration on one of my Conion, not sweating this

Pretty nice looking sides

Your boombox won't turn off because the lower cassette is stuck in play mode so it thinks it is "sleeping". That's where you can push play and run a tape with the radio on and it will turn the radio/boombox off when the tape stops. Because it doesn't drop out of play mode, it will stay on. Mine does that too :-/ . Replace belts.

I called ebay and they said the seller has a $350 lock on their paypal account until I make a decision to return it or to keep it. They also gave me GREAT points to use as leverage to still get a partial refund, so I contacted the seller again via ebay. They also said that the "texting" scripts are not able to be used without the seller specifically typing that info into an ebay message :-/ otherwise ebay would have issued me the $150 refund already that the seller agreed to via text...... lesson learned I guess.

So, I'll update here when I find out more :w00t:
