On a related note, I just bought a Helix HX-4635 for $300, am I crazy or smart for jumping on it? Have 2 Conion 100's, and from what I've seen the Conion/Helix/Clairtone's are all worth/collectable the same as they are 100% the same aside from branding. I don't have it in possession yet so we'll see what potential drama I may run into. I always assume the worst so I just pretend like I'm bringing the $300 to the casino. I might end up losing it all, or maybe double or triple my money with a little work/luck.
I at least feel a bit better that it's from a bit of a boom box collector, and just talking over all the specific of functionality and looks made me feel better. He took new full res photos I requested for me and is 100% on the responsive meter.
It's functional as far as it sounds great, radio works, aux in works, LED's and VU's work. So circuit board work and crap like that I assume.
Scratchy vol pot on usage, easy fix as I had terrible pots on Conion and they are 100% now
Missing mic mixing knob (at least he was open and told me the one he has on there is obviously from another box)
Missing tape A Door and spare tape tray (only things that really bug me)
Neither tape deck works (just repaired that on both my Conions so not worried about that at all)
Broken Ant tip on 1, broken Ant on the other (anyone ever find a place that sells a good replacement for these?)
Little discoloration and actually not to bad as far as scratches
It doesn't power off when you hit power button and alarm recently stopped working (any ideas??? I know the alarm and power are integrated but no sure what would cause that but maybe it's 1 fix to get both issues fixed)
So, with that all said, y'all think I'm crazy for dropping $300 on it? A working amp/speakers/radio/aux with this condition seems well work $300 for me. Just know the tape deck cover and spare tape tray are as impossible to find as a service manuel for it.
Just the the look in this photo and having the radio/AUX work is work $300 to me. I'm asking if that's a crack/scratch on the left side tuner glass, but it's not in previous pics from multiple angles he had, so I'm hoping it's a just lighting thing in the photo, or a polishable scratch not crack.
Some scratches but not too bad, knobs look nice aside from funny Mic Mixing replacement. Play button looks stuck and play head up, which I saw before in a Conion because the belts couldn't spin to allow the gearing to release when hitting 'stop'. Fixed that issue before.
I think a ninja sliced one Ant off.
I've seen worse discoloration on one of my Conion, not sweating this
Pretty nice looking sides
