So, with the crappy holiday weekend weather putting a major damper on my July 4th mood... I decided to flip through my records and fill up a C-90 with some tunes that I've not played in a really long time. And thus another retro mix tape is born!

I also thought it might be fun to start a thread for us to list our latest mixtape playlists and maybe even instigate some trades.

So, I'll start.... Here is my 2010 July 4th weekend mixtape...

I’ll Take You Back – A Retro Compilation
Miscellaneous 80’s & 90’s originals, dubs & club mixes. Compiled by JaeTee

A-Side: July 4th (mostly 90’s)

1) US3 – Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia mix 1993)
2) General Public – I’ll Take You There (Sunshine Club mix Satoshi Tomiie 1994)
3) Babble – Love Has No Name (Jasminder 1996)
4) Michael Jackson – Jam (Roger’s Club Mix 1991)
5) Fem To Fem – Where Did Love Go (Crobar Mix1995)
6) Anita Ward – Ring My Bell (Tommy Boy white label remix 199?)
7) US3 – Tukka Yoot’s Riddim (Instrumental Mix 1994)
8) Steel Pulse – Dub’ Marcus Say (1982)

B-Side: July 5th (mostly 80’s)

9) Eurythmics - Regrets (album version 1983)
10) Breakfast Club – Expressway To Your Heart (Dub 12” version 1988)
11) C.C.C.P – American Soviets (Paul Cameron Mix 1986)
12) Prince – D.M.S.R. (album version 1982)
13) Alexander O’Neal – Love Makes No Sense (Brothers in Rhythm Dub 1993)
14) Babyface – It’s No Crime (IJ Extended Mix 1989)
15) Yello – Oh Yea (Indian Summer Mix 1985)
16) Hall & Oates – I Can’t Go For That (album version 1981)

This tape was mastered onto a Sony Metal Master via my Nakamichi RX-505 and it sounds absolutely sublime. I'd be happy to dub a copy for any of you willing to make the effort to dub one of your favorite mixtapes and do a trade.

Is this an actual 'mixed' set ie, beat to beat and back to back or is it a compilation?

Either way, track listing looks heavy :sin: :surf:

It's more of a compilation. My beatmixed tapes are more latenight house mix style as that's much DJ friendlier and easier to mix. And to be honest, I've got about 100 of those already.

That said, there are a few in here that were mixed, some were blended where it made sense, and there are a few very short quick-fades..... Once I started the recoring, I never hit pause, so I was frantically diggin for that "perfectly acceptable next track" towards the end of some of these tracks.... (kinda funny). But, I assure you that your boomboxes' music search functions would probably be useless for skipping tracks as there are no 2-4 second gaps present....

Making this tape was more about taking a trip back, diggin' through the archives on a rainy day, and finding tracks that aren't really on any other compilation tape I have kickin' around... I'll also admit that the recent "classic house" thread got me feeling all nostalgic about my musical roots, too... :)

Wanna copy? Got something fun to copy and trade??? :-D

Ahh, OK. ;-)

I know what you mean about tracks that aren't on any other compilation tape, I actually like to hear compilations of 80s tracks that made say, the 30's and 20s positions in the charts I find it much more interesting and nostalgic than hearing virtually the same tracklist on every 'classic hits' compilation!
The lesser hits are the ones that typically you've forgotten about and hence the increased 'wow I forgot all about that tune' factor.

I'll have a dig and see what I can put together, but it'll' have to be recorded on a box as my damn Aiwa deck has crapped out on me :annoyed:

Nice thread idea :breakdance:

Just finished one KILLA mix tape

But after a preview of the tape - I notice two horrendous drop outs./

Jaytee - don't hold them against me - just view them as authentic

No worries, I'll just look at that as s'more authenticity!

Glad you guys are diggin' the idea! We got boxes flyin' around all the time.... Tape trades are fun, too! :-D And a lot cheaper!!!!

OK...phew! Trying to start a tape now.

First two boxes I've tried have deck issues since I last used them!!

Settled for the Pioneer SK-353 seems to sound nice on test. ALC sets level a little low but sound quality is pretty good.

I'm using a later generation TDK-SA90 (as I've got sealed packs and I know they're going to be stable).

Side 'A' now in progress. :-P

Side B is done, just listening back for QC purposes.

WAS I REALLY THERE?

An eclectic journey stepping stoning across House from the 80s and 90s with a definite deep soulful edge. .
Mixed on the fly with random tunes, no prep and haven't mixed most of these 'live' before so rough and rugged mixing at times

'Surprise Track List' but available on request if u like what u hear :-D

The A-Side reads very promising!

Thanks :-)

Do you mean a cassette?

Jaetee has the only copy in existence of side B. (Well, he should soon!)

Side 'A' I recorded via 'what U hear' to an MP3 file as I mixed it, but not Side B.

If u really want the house mix I have the T/List I could re-record it again at some point.

mp3 is fine with me and I´m more into 2Step so Side A would be nice.
I´ve got some Garage/2Step records, too. I can mix a B-Side with my records
