I picked up a Hitachi TRK-8270W---
On arrival it was externally and internally filthly--and when activated it would only make noises like one of those monsters from a 1930's movie soundtrack---nothing worked--- no radio, no meters, no tape, no nothing---opening it up displayed melted tape belts and a broken circuit board--luckily snapped off near it's attachment point at the frame but dangling about internally---you can see it hanging on the left side of the photo--

After two days of work---gluing the snapped circuit board together--cleaning the snot out of controls, replacing belts, detailing the exterior...it sounds and looks great---the left channel is a bit weak--but that's a job for another moment after i research fixing that problem.....

My point is that you never really know how a box will turn out will you?--originally i thought this project was a lost cause--but i guess through this project i learned that when it comes to boomboxes--don't let first evaluations of a box decide for you and when restoring ----never surrender--is the idea to keep in mind.

Nice one good work! How do those sound? I've passed up a few over the years but they look very interesting indeed.

I have that exact same box! My left woofer is dead so I'm going to replace both.. I can tell this unit cranks like a Blockbuster or SCR-8..

Hey K2j---
Bearing in mind that I haven't really completed all the repairs required--(weak left channel) I like it's sound very much...
Very very clear---almost too clear in radio mode--you have to tune in your station perfectly or else it puts out every little static variation in the tuning...
It's very powerful--and very clear---it's not a bass boomer---the bass is for sure there--but it's focus is not on that death bass sound you know? More of a take it with you home stereo---? The bass levels might for sure change upward if i can get both channels performing properly? It's built like a tank--but easy to open up----it also has an auto-select feature for the deck--i got that working as well---but as of yet I don't know how to properly work it without a manual----
The key would be finding one in the right condition--because there is for sure alot of junk inside that could go or be wrong--
Hope this helps---

And thanks for all the positive comments from everybody---

I think you are absolutely correct---it has a huge power potential--I'm going to try to run extension speakers from it when i get a chance--
