I'm with Ira on this. If the Sanyo works and looks good from the front and you can carry it around without it crumbling through your fingertips, then you've still got something there... something that most of us only dream about. Listen to it, take "full frontal" photos of it... but, at the same time, start searching for another one.
Not too long ago, I received a blaster from Korea that the seller simply laid in a bed of shredded paper, closed the box, and put in the mail. It arrived in so many pieces that it literally disintegrated when I picked it up. I had shards of plastic all over the living room for months.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to minimize the seriousness of your problem. You have the right to be devastated and furious! There's no excuse for packing like that (other than laziness, cheapness, or pure stupidity). But one thing I've come to realize over the years is that non-collectors just don't seem to realize a) how fragile boomboxes really are (sending a boombox is nothing at all like sending a toothbrush... or even a Walkman), and b) how much bumping/dropping/kicking/tossing packages actually get from delivery services.
After years of buying boomboxes on eBay, I'm no longer surprised when they arrive looking like your Sanyo. Angry and heartbroken, yes... but not surprised. I've come to expect that about a third of the boomers I buy will arrive busted in some way. Go ahead and mourn your loss for a while. Scream and yell. And cry. You have the right to. But when you're tired of feeling bad, lift your chin up (knowing that most of your fellow collectors have experienced exactly what you experienced... and not just once, but many times), open up your computer, and start searching again. Trust me. There are better days ahead!
