For interest sake i visited Wikipedia to see what it had to say about Boomboxes. I was quite surprised to see it claim that a Boombox was also referred to a as a 'Wogbox' back in the day.

Is someone having a joke here? At least in Australia using this term would be a good way to get your head kicked in.

Does anyone have any memory of comments such as "Wow man, love that Wogbox" being thrown around like confetti?

I never heard the term here in Aus Jeremy, but I believe that it may have been used in the UK a bit, some of our UK members may know.

I wouldn't use the term myself.

So it is true. How sad. I never realised that having a boombox could be used against you with such a derogatory term. Having a quality boombox only ever resulted in much respect and jelousy for the owner in my experience.

That is certainly a stain on the UK.

I brought this up recently - as ironically an Australian item on ebay au was descfribed as such

and one of the other Australian posters on here tried defending it's usage - as merely meaning West Oriental Gentleman and was NOT offensive

all I can say is Nigga Please

Funny enought it's still not offensive over her in Perth
So lets all move on to boomboxes or what ever you wish to call them

I remember asking this at good old "S2Go". Because I was saying some find the term "Ghetto-blaster" offensive. And I do remember some UK members mentioning "wogbox" as being offensive. Oh, Well, we all just need to live by Kenpat's comment.

There's always going to be some slang word that is considered offensive in one part of the world and not offensive elsewhere. I don't think anyone here would ever intentionally use a pejorative slang word from their own culture to refer to another member or a boombox.

:agree: with both KenPat & FatDog. Now that I learned what that word means, I'll brain dump it and move on to positive things that bring us all together. One Race= "Human Race".

Yuk! I did not think I would hear this word again. The bad old days. Most people have moved on though, haven't they? :hmmm:
