Hello

For this summer i want to start a project to make a bleutooth speaker out of a 50l porto barrel. At the two end it can fit a 12 inch full range speaker (http://www.bax-shop.nl/12-inch-luidspreker/beyma-12ga50-professionele-full-range-speaker) the barrel i would buy (http://www.tasboomkwekerij.nl/epages/PH1280022.sf/nl_NL/?ObjectPath=/Shops/PH1280022/Products/V50O). And than 2 tweeter ( any suggestions?) It must have a bleutooth connector and an aux input. For the battery i am not sure what to use ( i must last atleast 8 hours and rechargebal). I am not really femilair with the whole circuit, can someones please help mee out? ( a usb charger for your phone would be nice?)

Wine barrel 'box' - or should I say 'Bass Barrel' :-)

The Barrel should provide a very solid casing for your speakers. I would suggest that utilising 10 inch drivers will require the use of mids in addition to your tweeters. Probably a 5 inch mid setup would be the way to go. You will have to be very careful with your 3 way crossover network to ensure you don't end up with gaps in the frequency range. A 2 way setup would be much simpler but 10 inchers suck at mids.

This project will be very heavy - I'm assuming this will not be 'portable'. Your drivers are 4.5 kilos each!

I'd go with an SLA battery - I've build 5 DIY boxes now and the SLA setup always works fine. We can help you with the techie part once you've got your parts on hand.

Good luck with your project - a Bass Barrel is certainly a first for Boomboxery! :-)

James... :-)

Yeah but i am not going to use tweeter, just 2 12inch full range speakers, it is easyer because on those curved edges it is difficult to place a speaker.

Bigger speakers will be harder to mount. I would stick with some 8" drivers, 3-4" mids, and some good 2" tweeters.

Whichever way you decide to go should be awesome!

2 12 inch drivers, no mids and no tweeters? That could sound mighty flat. Tweeters are very directional too. Assuming the barrel will lay on its' side, a couple of smallish holes could be simply drilled into the front panel and two small car style tweeters installed. I have a pair of Pioneer tweeters here that would work well.

Any highs that your 12 inch drivers produce out the ends of the barrel will be barely heard when listening from in front of the barrel.

Just my thoughts. :-)

Yeah that is right, but the full range speaker has a range from 60Hz to 20.1kHz so that is good but two little tweeters in the front is a good idea for those high end sounds.

I think that will be a good compromise. This barrel project could turn out to be a real 'Bass Bomb' :-)
