Hello all,
I'm curious...will adding some speaker back covers help improve some of the bass frequencies in an old boombox? I'm in the middle of a restoration of my newly acquired Hitachi TRK 8190H and while I have it laying in pieces on my work bench it hit me that the box is just for looks and structural support. I'm thinking of a sealed enclosure like in car stereos....it might help them not move so much air.

Thoughts?

I'm no expert by any means but have you considered you may be compromising the existing (designed to be efficient?) air flow and how this may affect the way moisture/humidity/dampness in the air (in particular if you have paper speakers) may dry out? If there's any moisture lingering in the box for an unnecessary length of time there may be implications. Only guessing but that's my pennyworth!

The front of the speakers would still be "in the elements" allowing them to dry out if needed. Just thinking that they may be a little more punchy. It's hard adjusting to 80's sound technology after listening to a Bose Soundwave for the past few years.
