So, in almost 25,000 views of my Youtube videos, here's where most of my views come from:

USA 27%
Germany 7%
Russia 7%
UK 5%
Canada 5%
Romania (really?) 4%
Italy 3%
Japan 3%
Ukraine 3%
Netherlands 2%
France 2%
Poland 2%
Australia 2%
Spain 2%
etc. etc.

No surprise the USA is #1 because Youtube is American and because we were the largest market for boomboxes, but how come Germany and Russia are #2 and #3? Anyone care to speculate? They trade a lot on Ebay too.
This is something I've always wondered about, but never asked until now. Is there something about Germany and Russia's cultures that makes them like boomboxes? They are hands-on, techie type of people maybe?
Or is it just because white people like boomboxes?

Think its a combination of the big amount of habitants in those countries and the high penetration of high speed internet.

Next reason could be the relative big size of generation X (the ones that grown up with boomboxes) because of the post war baby boom. Just a guess...:))

To have a boombox at age 17 was a bigh thing when I grew up. It was a huge jump from reel to reel taperecorders to cassette tape recorders that one can carry around. I have seen a big crowd to hear their recorded voice from tiny sony cassette players back in my college days. I am talking about 1971 to 73 period.

Never underestimate the knowledge of Russian scientists back in those days. They were the first to send a man to outer space. I still remember those days when people were all talking about Yuri Gagarin.

Those radio-cassette players were immensely populair over here at that time. I got my first one at around 1975 (I was 5 at that time). A thrown away piece from my parents. I still remember myself playing with it as if it was a toy. I'm from the Netherlands (small country next to Germany) and we adopted these machines quite early. Probably because both the compact cassette and radio-casette-combination were invented here by Philips.

The biggest collection of boombox pictures is by a Russian:
http://www.shizaudio.ru/
That shows their dedication in this art.
Yes, right, that's one of the biggest and most popular Russian bbx sites comprising a huge database of boomers' photos.
Hate to seem boastful ;-) , 3 first reviews on the first page there are mine (Fisher, National and Toshiba), recently posted. :-)

I think it's great to have Russian collectors in the hobby, they provide a unique perspective. Now if only I could read Russian.....

Thank you, Terry! :-) I do like atmosphere here too..
As they say "It is never too late to learn - Nulla Aetas Ad Discendum Sera".

Anyway, if you wish you could always use any cloud translator.
My pics might be of help too - I always try to locate and upload as many relevant ones as I can to provide a better insight, shall we say.

I know a Russian buddy selling lots of his boxes. He is asking very high prices for them. I bought my Sharp VZ-3500 from him. I could get it for a reasonable price because it was in non working condition. I fixed it all up and now works like new.

Hi Buddy! :-)
Very high prices are usually asked by those who treat it as a business, resellers, not real collectors, part of a Clan..
Could you tell me his nickname, if it's not a secret of course - I might probably know him - our schizo gang as we call it isn't that big after all. :-D

Terry, just opened one of my recent reviews, by clicking the right mouse button run the standard Google Chrome translation and check the results - very good and comprehensive!
Of course it doesn't know slang for, say, one-piecer or double tape, but otherwise the sense is still there. :-)
Encourage you to try and share your thoughts.

BTW, in 2008 was lucky to spend 3 weeks of holiday of a lifetime in Australia, love Aussie since then. :-)
Crocodile Dundee ruleZZ! :-D

Cheers,
