Why no switchable power supply?

Here's something I've been trying to figure out for a while and even tried looking online for answers, but nothing. Perhaps it's an easy explanation...

I notice many JVC boomboxes (especially from the '80s) that have the "C" (for Canada) designation after the model number are not equipped with a switchable power supply. Why is that?

Maybe because local Canada consumer regulations for electronics do not permit it. Or maybe because there's no point since Canada uses only 120V.

The transformer is smaller as it has only one winding. Multi voltage has multiple windings and can be sold to many different country's.
