It has to be one of the worst feelings. You take possession of your "new" old boomer and find it to buzz and rattle. Upon closer inspection, you notice it to be missing a number of screws in the backplate :'-( Does anyone know of a reliable supplier of this necessary hardware?.It seems as though the threading on these old screws is different than on the ones commonly found in your local hardware stores. Is this problem fixable or do we have to live with it? I've found boombox screws to be so easy to lose and so hard to find. Alternately, has anyone run across a workaround to fix this common problem? What do you guys do when the addition of missing screws seems to be the only way to make a box listenable?

Pan head sheet metal screws are close enough if you can get them in the proper lengths (hard to find if long and small guage) but they will hold properly. You may need to grind the sharp tip down. Do not use fine thread machine screws as I've found they just grind the plastic down to dust. For obvious reasons, tapered wood screws are a big no-no unless you want to split those screw towers. Also, sheetrock screws, while I have seen them used, is not a good alternative because the tapered heads tend to split the plastic when tightened down.
