random noise im getting when playing or recording a tape -

it comes and goes
tape plays well at correct speed with no other issues

anyone have any ideas?

Is it coming through the speakers or from the mechanism?
Sounds to me like it's the flywheel rubbing against something, if it's not coming through the speakers.

Try playing a tape with it leaning forward or backwards and see if the sound still occurs.

its definately coming from the tape drive area, not the speakers (sorry ifi wasnt clear on this)

the place i bought this bbx from in Adelaide has told me they will fix it, but i need to remove the tape component & send it back to them (they said they will pay all postage too, which is nice)

i would rather not have to send it off to them but i will if i have to

It sounds like squealing bushings in the motor. My Panasonic F-35 has the same sound and the tape actually slows down.
