Recently acquired a collection of 19 absolute mint condition gems for mere pennies while searching for my first boombox. A few models I just can’t identify, this being the biggest mystery it’s brand new in box, tag still on the handle. I know all Sears pieces were AKAs of the big brands, I’m sure this is no exception. It looks somewhat similar to my RX-5150, but not quite. Is it Panasonic made?

Thanks in advance 33A44BF4-4DF4-4798-93F9-76A55F18B97F.jpeg

I see Toshiba DNA in it.
Reasons: Upright Cassette Deck (bottom keys), Stereo Wide, Built in Loudness, Only Tone Control (No Bass/Treble), the Two LED indicators for Battery/FM and the shape!

Like Toshiba RT-70S, 80/120 etc.

Just about everyone built a box for Sears, you can find the manufacturer through the Vintage Machinery Website using the first three digits of the long number on the back of the box, I don't think any have the actual company printed although I feel like some of the early 70's units did say Sanyo?

Some of the contract manufacturers from Hong Kong or Taiwan might not be listed but the big guys will.

Link is very helpful, thank you.

it appears to be sanyo, and from what I was able to find, it’s an AkA of the M9830 with alterations to the tweeter grills. It’s hard to see the resemblance at first, but once you look at the knobs and switches, you start to see it. The tweeter shape really changes the overall appearance. I’m not sure if the woofer grills are altered or not, though.

from what I found, people have said the Sears version is superior due to the round tweeters. Interesting.
