:agree:
For example the black 3piecers are much more at the fleas, as the older units.
I think they appeared later. :hmmm:
But my favourites are the big onepiecers!
They are much better for displaying and cruising :afro:

i am pretty certain sony began the cubist stylings with the fh series.
i think the fh series did get underway around 1983 could be plus minus a year.

...in Northern Cali I can remember the 3 piecers started popping up around 86-87. It was at the tail end of the breakdancing era and the most popular here was the big Fisher 492..every once in a while you would see the big Panasonic with 8 speakers being pulled around in a wagon...but by then alot of my freinds were making home made boxes out of Samsonite suitcases, they were cheaper and much, much louder than any boombox.

come on melly dig out a pic of the samsonite box!!!

...I will see if I can find an old polaroid. Just picture an old Samsonite suitcase with an old Alpine cassette deck on the top portion, 4 Pioneer 200 watt 6x9 speakers in the front, and a motorcycle battery inside to power the whole thing....

Dude that's awesome! You found a picture and it totally kills the ice chest boom box in style and build quality. Represent P.R. Great stuff, thanks :-D

I actually just referenced this type of boombox on another post earlier today! Glad to see my friend who did this in highschool wasn't the only one ahead of his time!

I got a JVC 3-pc for Christmas my first year in college - December 84. Agree with another poster -- much prefer the single piece units from the early 80s.
