This is an interesting boombox, or is it? It surely has the elements of being a boombox however it's missing a few elements too. It could be the oldest ghettoblaster if it had 2 features, Can you guess what is missing? ...

It has 2 tall aerials that resemble a ghettoblaster...

Look at the "plastic" molded battery compartment, maybe the first of it's kind. And that cover it looks like a mouse trap.

Probably a stereo, since it doesn't have a cassette deck. My Crown SP-140 is similar,, except that it does have a phono, which, in pre-cassette days, was the most common pre-recorded music player. Therefore, the SP-140 is a little closer to being a boombox, especially since, like your Juliette, it also has a handle, radio and AC/battery operation. The one thing neither of our old-time units can do is play pre-corded music on-the-run, like cassette and 8-track boxes can do, which seems necessary for a boombox to be a boombox. So, in the end, I'd say we both have nice, early portable stereos... but not authentic boomboxes.

Yup "Juliette". It sereioussly looks like it was 20 years ahead of it's time. Too bad they weren't using cassettes back then.

@ boom shaka laka, Your crown is pretty sweet. Does it have similated walnut laminent or real laminented woodgrain, or is it solid pieces?
I wouldn't pass this julette up yet, it does have a phono line input just as most modern day boomboxes do. It als has a plastic molded battery compartment which all modern day boomers do, however the cassette a mandatory thing for a real boombox.

That is some nice styling on the Juliette. Is that real wood or some kind of laminate?

@ Fatdog...The wood looks solid but is actually really thick wood laminate, like 3 layers totalling a half inch. The back panel has a particle board similar to "pegboard".
This thing is amazing looking, it reminds me of the "jbl paragon speakers" or "the jbl metrogons" (They are huge speakers that are shaped like huge ghettoblasters) from the 60's

This is from the early to mid 70s don't know the date but it has a cassette with mic inputs ac/dc & 12V for the marine lovers. I could put a disco mix tape in it and blast it anywhere, I guess that would be considered a ghettoblaster
