Whats the best way to paint a bookbox?

Unfortunately if the text is on a surface you want repainted you're more than likely going to loose the text in the process.
The first & foremost thing you should do is document everything.
Take lots of pictures & measurements of the placement of the text, the size & what font.

Do some research online for "dry transfer letters", see if you can find your particular font in the size & color you want on your box.
It's alotta work & takes much patience but it can be done so you have at least 1 option here.
The only downside is that after you paint your box & apply the dry transfer decals you'll still require a clear coat (whether gloss, satin or flat) to seal & protect the new text you applied to your box.

I'm sure others will chime in with other methods.

BTW it would help to know what radio you're working on...

Or just tape up the text I've seen this done and it don't look half bad 😉
