to me mint condition means it looks like you just bought it yesterday like it came out of the box and you just set it up.
what box do you have that is in true mint condition.
i have a few boxes that are basically unused but the prize for being mint still to this day goes to the pioneer sk-95.
this boomer for me is still really special for me.
i will never get another box in this kind of shape and well its just really beautiful. a lot of people hate the fabric grills but i really like this look.

actually --let me talk about the ONE box that should never // ever be anything less --
than DOB MINT !!!
its the tele studio --

sure the functions eventually wear out --and there will be fingerprints on the controls-

but --who would ever have use that ultra heavy and mega $$ expensive gem
for breakdancing , stoop shows , beaches or even a picnic - NOPE

they must have all been bought new by the wealthy -
placed on a shelf in a clean home -
NEVER had batteries installed-

so --if anyone (even ebay crooks)
claims to have a mint tele for sale --
they prolly DO !!!

Mint to me means out of the box with absolutely no scratches or marks, period.I really don't care a whole lot about mint condition items to be truthful.Of course if I can acquire one I will, but I'm not paying extra for it.I do,however, like extremely clean fully functioning equipment. The important thing for me is to feel comfortable experiencing my boxes completely.I don't want to get bent out of shape over putting the first nick or mark on something. If you want to keep something that new you risk leaving it on a shelf as merely a decoration.Life's just too short for that.

The only problem with true, never-opened, mint new-old-stock is that, as we all know, once opened, these boomboxes might not work. Hardly minty! Time and lack of use have a way of making toast out of electronic components and belts. Ironically, sometimes the only way to keep a boombox in "mint condition" is to use it on a regular basis, thus rendering it no-longer-mint.

True... I usually draw names to see which one gets kicked down the stairs today. Usually it ends up being one I bought from Ira.... for some strange reason they seem to like it.

heres another useless thought --that can be shared here (at no $$ extra charge) :::

the sellers definition of 'mint' does even count -
the buyers opinion is all that matters.

I've only got couple of what I'd call 'mint' ones, but I find it more of a curse than a blessing as they're the ones I don't use and am constantly paranoid about. I much, much prefer having radios that have that 'age consistent with wear/use', as it gives them character and shows they've earned their keep. As I use mine daily and carry them to and from work it makes I know that if I accidentally get a little extra scratch or ding on them that it's not the end of the world.

It is a mixed blessing...there is nothing like a mint or new looking box that works....but I also find myself being paranoid about scratching it or something happening to it. All those years of being mint and then it gets scratched dropped or broken it's a bad feeling

Yup it's a very bad feeling my latest m90 had quite a few marks on it of wich i have cleaned 99% off making her in a1 condition but then i found a scratch and it was devostating because i thought i had cauzed it while cleaning her, but on further background checking i found out the scratch was already there and that made me feel kinda a whole lot better about the situation.

I see mint a a relative term. In the automotive world, mint condition is that which is restored as close to new as possible, not unused. That being said, on boomers, minor surface scuffs and wear do not distract from mint, but give it character and gives better insight to what we'd really like to know. It's functionality and care during it's lifespan. :-)

The problem with these scales is they are wide open to interpretation so everybody has their own idea of what's Good, Excellent, Mint, etc....
If you buy a box that's claimed to be mint then you receive it and get pissed because some paint is rubbed off a few corners or there's some discoloration on the grille or whatever. To some that may still qualify as "MINT" while to you it may not so you get pissed because you paid extra to get it under the impression it fits your "MINT" scale so who is right and who is wrong? This is a huge grey area.
 :hmmm:
