Other than finding a replacement, obviously.
It seems like half of the boxes I see on eBay are missing battery covers, so what do you guys tend to do when you can't find a replacement?
Sure, I could duct tape the compartment closed, or if I had access to the precise specs and a 3d printer, I could re manufacture it, but filing that, do you guys have any good suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

I think something out of sheet metal would be good. Flexible, strong, paintable..... Probably like 18-20 gauge or so  .

Welcome aboard, Lexedus.

Depending on the configuration of the batteries inside the boombox, you could probably use plastic sleeves like the ones talked about in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2730

It would definitely allow you to use less tape. :-)

Of course, you could always get Ira (redbenjoe) to make you one from a block of wood.

Did that wood really go through the mail like that???? :w00t:
Yep. And you see that poor ol' Scott had to pony up an additional 67 cents.

I Am Legend
over the years -
i have managed to sell our good sport skippy --
LOTS of piles of shittte--- :'-( :-O

but that 67 cents was his best deal !!!
EVER !!! :dunce:

as for the question --
in case you have no power tools to 'create' a wooden 'sculpture :-)

then --
go to your local hobby shop -
get a small sheet of 3/32" AIRCRAFT PLY--
its VERY strong -
you can cut it with a sharp knife - and paint it

---but you will still need to apply 2 neat tape strips to hold it on-
they do work well

You may also have better luck on the forum for getting a used cover ;-) As for many bbx's on ebay I dont believe there is that high of a percent of them missing battery doors :hmmm: I have only gotten a couple boxes with missing covers in the 4 years and over 50 plus bbx;s bought and i was able to find replacements

I know what you mean. I have seen some pretty nice ones go by without a battery cover. Remember though, that that "great deal" is only great because the price was lowered to account for it. Bids are made accordingly lower, too.

I wouldn't hesitate in buying a nice box without a cover. Ira's wooden ones look hella nice.

Awesome, thanks guys. I'll probably do a tube and some sort of cover. I never thought of using wood though, I'll def look into that.

I had this idea of going to a thrift store, buying old electronics with matching plastic (tv of the same brand or ?) and cutting out a piece to the right size, then bending it to shape(after heating). Just a theory at this point, but might work.

..then I can donate them all back. :-) People may begin to wonder why there are battery-cover size holes missing out of some of the stores electronics though. :-D

Like the idea of cutting into TV sets. The slide type batterry covers like the ones on the Sharp 9696 should be much easier than the M70,M50 which have clips. Also agree 67 cents was a hell of a deal.

Hello fellow enthusiast!
I took a battery cover of similar size from a junk box and scored it to fit.
Then I slide it in and put hinges on it.
Later I will paint it but it's not a pressing issue at the moment.

The way I look at it is you are not going to carry the bbx with batteries then wait to see if you can get a used cover. Otherwise you will just mess with the originality and aesthetics of it and the value will decline
