After seeing OSS pics of his thrifty store find, see here, viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2701
i realised how many missed oppurtunities i had of taking pics of my finds like this :'-(
Problem is im always so excited i dont stop to think of taking a picture, i just want to grab it before someone else does

Well a couple of weeks ago i did the rounds of some recycle centres and as i was parking the car i seen this one at the drop-off section. From here the items are sorted and taken to the designated areas. I had to drive past this drop-off area to park, so i asked my friend to jump out and guard it for me so it wouldnt get picked up by someone else (yeah im addicted  )
Boy was i excited to see it there, talk about heart racing  Anyway this time i made sure i grabbed the camera.

This photo shows exactly where it was as i drove in ! Just out of the picture to the left behind the orange fridge is my friend still gaurding the boombox for me while i take a photo  . She is great to take searching for boomboxes, she's as excited about finding them as i am. :-)

So, without cheating ;-) , anyone know what this one is ??

Incredible find! I'm nutz about it! :w00t: Love anything with the "His Master's Voice" Nipper dog on it. You scored BIG with this one.

(I think I'll just stare at your photos for a while and drool. Anybody got a bib I could use? )

I would agree that is certainly a rare box. I've never even seen or heard of a "His Master's Voice" boombox. In these parts, it's usually RCA Victor or just RCA. Top notch!!

My first thought was some sort of Aiwa - the cassette door is similar to the Aiwa design. ;-)

WOW!! :w00t:
What a great find, congratulations my friend.
Dont you just love that moment when you see it,
and you transform from a man into a pitibull who has spotted a ham bone?
Suddenly we're preoccupied with someone snatching it before we lay hands on it
so our eyes scan the area.
no wonder this hobby is addicting!

Cheers OSS :afro:

So is it made by Victor / JVC? Do they have anything to do with this box?

Can't say who made the box, but...
Being a Nipper fanatic, I can tell you about the "His Master's Voice" name and dog trademark.

In North America, RCA owns it. (Actually, RCA as a corporation doesn't exist anymore. It does exist as a name, however. Thomson uses the RCA name on small electronics, and Sony owns the RCA Victor Records label.)

In Japan, JVC owns Nipper and the "His Master's Voice" slogan, but can't use the trademark outside of Japan.

In the rest the world, Nipper is owned by EMI (or whoever owns EMI these days). When EMI uses Nipper on stuff, "His Master's Voice" is the actual brand name of the product, and not just a slogan. So there's the HMV record store chain, His Master's Voice records (tapes, CD's and whatever else), and His Master's Voice electronics, like radios and phonographs and boomboxes. I'll bet a shiny, new dime that Aza's boombox was made by some Asian OEM electronics company (not JVC; it just doesn't look like a JVC) (Jens showed how the box had other aka's as well) and then licensed by EMI Australia to put the "His Master's Voice" name and Nipper dog trademark on it.

Quiz tomorrow. Study hard. :-P

(I actually like knowing pointless trivia like this. I need to get a life... QUICK!)
(Wait a minute! I'm old!! I've already HAD a life. Sheesh... look what I've done with it!)

That's to cool AZA, I can feel the excitement as your telling the story.
Love the uniqueness of the box too, never seen one with "HIS MASTERS VOICE" before.

its a super cool box but i am pretty certain this was a box that did not have anything to actually do with rca.
i am almost certain these used to be sold here in chinatown also under the victoria name as well.
congrats on your cool scoop.
