Awesome, thanks Gordie. I don't have one yet - but I would like to know who does and what it compares to.

the jvc pc550 sounds nothing like a m70 or any of the big one piece boomboxes i have heard and i have heard many.
the pc550 is a excellent sounding heavy three piece unit.
if i had to pick boxes that sounds the most like it i would have say that the sony fh-7 is very close to how it sounds as is the underloved yamaha pc-8.
the pc550 i have owned twice and the first time i sold it i was determined to find another one.
some people say the pc550 is bass shy,but i honestly think it has great bass it just does not over hype the bass.
its amongst the best balanced sounding boxes i think.
the radio is excellent you would be hard pressed to find a better tuner on a boombox.
unfortunately my tape deck now needs belts in mine but...
when the tape deck was working everyone who has heard it said they could not believe they were listening to a tape.
the pc550 really does have that hi density sound to it.
its a totally different vibe from a one piece box.
i also think you would be hard pressed to find a portable tape deck that could surpass this one . its really awesome.
i think the 550 is one of the best three piece boxes of them all.

some might say no its not a must have box but for me if you are really a serious collector i think it is.
i think i have said it before but there is something about the pc550 that reminds me of a tube amp. maybe its just me but it seems to have that kind of warm vibe to it.
some people seem to like the pc55 more because the speakers are better dampened but honestly the pc550 sounds really great as it is.
the way it rolls off the really really low end bass is very good.
they can be finicky with their sliders and with there dx circuit.
also from what i have learned the belt is hard to replace and i can pretty much promise if it has the original belt in it that will happen.
then the tape deck dont sound to good anymore. :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:
