What do you do with old batteries?

After spending a little time looking at these two BIG bag's of used batteries (see pic below), I started to wonder, ARE BOOMBOXES GREEN?

As you can see in the picture below, there are lots of D-Cell batteries in those bags. There are lot's of other sizes as well. Even some old remote control car and airplane batteries.

Truth be known, I use rechargeable D-Cell's 90% of the time and that equates to at least 30-40 sets of batteries I would have had to have bought.

But there are still 5-6 sets of 10 D-Cells in those bags.

I have always collected batteries to make sure they don't end up in a land fill somewhere. I will be taking these to the local Home Depot where they accept used batteries and then they get recycled properly.

So I guess my second question is: Do you take any steps to handle your battery consumption in a GREEN way?

Using Line In rather than the tape player would definitely help.
