For me, there are 2 boomboxes that I'd like to get and they are both NEW ones:

Altec IMT800 and the new JVC ipod kaboom.

I really like how the kaboom sounds so it's a must have no brainer. BUT it's soo big. :sadno:
Introducing the Altec. The truest modern "boombox" that I've seen.

Problem with both is that the designers omitted the AM section seeing as it's probably too expensive. That's too bad because I do listen to talk radio and sports games once in awhile and this guarantees that I'll have to use a different box for that. :sadno:

I know many of you feel that the cassette is more important -- not me. Most of my music is on CD or digital format. I also think it's a sign of the times and cassettes are going to go the way of dinosaurs soon. The cost to engineer and manufacture the mechanical parts are too expensive compared with semiconductors. Also, modern cassette mechanisms aren't as bulletproof as older ones as the parts are mostly plastic so even if it was offered, it's not likely to be as durable anyhow. So learn how to use an iPod guys -- it's a sign of the times, so RESISTANCE IS FUTILE, PREPARE TO BE ASSIMILATED. :-O

for me it's more M70's, M90, Crown 850 & 970 and a C100F...a very tall order. An mp3 kaboom and Altec Lansing are on my list as well but they are much easier to get and I will save them for xmas. As for ipod's being total crap I don't really understand that statement...if there is a better sounding portable audio format than and mp3 player please tell me what it is...I prefer the Creative touch x-fi2, it has a better sound card than the ipod... ...it really maximizes the sound of any box...imho...sorry Rimmer... :-D

the one and only on my list is the new JVC ipod kaboom.. should be in stores real soon.. been checking daily and a few stores are listing it but none in stock yet.. i emailed JVC and even they dont know what the exact day and date of the Kaboom is.. i have $$ in hand for it.. so it's just a matter of when.. the new Lasonic with itouch compatibility looks pretty cool too.. but we all know the build quality sucks.. kudo's to them for at least trying though..

I would have to say MP3 Kaboom, Sony CFS-99, Pioneer SK-21 and maybe a Crown 850.
Still can't turn down the odd cool box here and there but I'm not actively looking for anything else.

I'm with fatdog, m90 is the sole contender of the one box mission list.

Any other pick ups will be surprise boxes I didn't even know I wanted :-D but GF 9494,9595,9696 have always been interesting to me...

i never plan to get any boxes. they come my way and if they are good i get them
Exactly how I feel!

My boombox buying works kind of the way Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart described pornography back in 1964. He said he couldn't define it, but "I know it when I see it."

My boombox buying is pretty much all "impulse buying." If a box hits me right, I try to get it. (I don't always succeed.) I try not to wish for specific boxes, because, for me, that's sure-fire disappointment. I mean, I have no control over which ones turn up on eBay, at flea markets, at thrift stores, on Craig's List or from fellow Boomboxery members. So, I just surf those sources and jump on boxes that are desirable and look like good deals. They don't always turn out that way, but most of the fun is in the hunt, so I'm OK with that. Like a good gambler, I try not to spend more than I can afford to lose.

Mostly, I buy boomboxes the way I shop at Big Lots. I never go into that store wanting to buy something in particular, because it's not likely to be there, and I get discouraged easily. Rather, I just go in with a charge card and see if there's anything I need or like. There always is.

My wife and daughter are planning a trip to Tokyo in the spring, so I've asked them to do some hunting. They've been to Turbo Sonic before and have a good sense of what I like and what a decent boombox price is (usually more in Japan than here). I've liked the Columbia brand for years but have never snagged anything (except a few transistor radios) (Nippon Columbia is Denon outside of Japan) (and Columbia boomboxes are usually just rebadged Hitachis), so maybe 2010 will be my year. Maybe not. My instructions will be, "Look for Columbia. If you can't find Columbia, surprise me." With all the new airport security, they'll be lucky to get even one boomer on a plane.

Like I said, impulse buying.

I am not planning on buying any this year, rather I am going to concentrate my energy on repairing the little odds and ends on the ones I already have.
To me that is a big part of the hobby that I enjoy.
If I do decide to get one this year I will have to figure out which one to get rid of and I'm not sure I am ready to make that decision yet.
That or trading with a member will be the only way for me to get another one
.

I Am Legend
i never have much of a plan - :dunce:
my collection is extreme random-

but - about once per week an ebay or a member box pops up-
--so thats how 2010 and future years may go -

my goal for 'thinning out'
is to get one per week -
and sell one per month
