based on looks
based on sound

me
based on sound people always the most blown aways with the kaboom.
based on looks more them seem to like the jvc m70 than any other box i have.

honorable non boombox mention goes to the grundig 210 allthough just a mono radio more people have tried to sneak it out of here than any other thing i own.

I don't have any friends, but when I sit on the porch with my Conion, folks walking by and in passing cars sometimes wave or give a thumbs-up. For some of them, I think it's the huge size that gets their attention. But I think others actually recognize it, even tho they can't remember where they've seen it before. (Like on the Darren Hayes "Pop!ular" CD single...)

Most of my non-boombox friends are blown away by the awesome bass of the JVC Kaboom...me too! The one they gravitate to for it's looks is always my custom white M70...she is a looker!...an honorable mention goes out to the M90 in both categories... :-D

I recently had some non-collectors over for dinner.
A woman gazed at my boombox shelves for quite a few minutes which swelled me with pride.
She saw my Lasonics, my Mag D8443, My Phillips elephant, my Sharp 8585,
She knelt down to study one from my collection and she said,"This one here is amazing looking."
I kid you not, she was looking at 'Cheapy"

3 different boxes for three different reasons.

#1 Panasonic 5080 - looks oldschool and sounds amazing

#2 Lasonic TRC-931 - It's big and loud and nasty (mine is)

#3 JVC RB-NB10B - Super bassy, loud and looks like a weapon

Runner ups:

JVC-M60JW - Looks super high class and sounds amazing

Panasonic - 5050 - Looks great, sounds great - WTF else do you need?

When people hear the sound that comes out of my JVC PC-55, they are completely blown away. They pass out on the floor when I tell them it is almost 30 years old. :-D

Whenever I have new people over I'm always really interested in what radio attracts them the most.

Before I had the DiscoLite it was always thw VZ-2000 that got the most "oohs", "ahhs" and "It plays RECORDS???"
Since the DiscoLite everyone becomes hypnotised by it within seconds.

An honourable mention goes to my TV blasters too.. people can't believe they have a TV screen in them and that
gets a lot of attention too, probably cause the couple I have stand out from the the standard radio/cassette variety.

For sound, usually the BigBen, M90 and FH100 get the most positive/ mouth agape results.

A nice bonus too: putting on a DiscoLite shuts up even the most talkative females, even drunk ones! This can be very handy.
Be aware though, when they eventually recover though, the "Aww! I want one!!" whining and pining starts...

The most positive results I've had when carrying one around usually goes to the Lasonic 931 or 975. A woman driving a four wheel drive (SUV)
nearly had an accident watching the 931's dazzling display of high grade ghettoblasting prowess when I was walking home during the week. They
get the most rubbernecking looks and comments it seems.

That said, I've not taken the C-100F, M90, Super Jumbo or DiscoLite out for a walk yet.

Rock On.

Though no one at work understands my hobby, they were very impressed when I let them use my Fisher ph463.I have much better boxes but I mainly work alone so no one gets to hear them. It's a declining era box but goes fairly loud and has a nice presence to the highs. After seeing the antenna clamp broken,I promptly removed the box.Now I have some angry co workers! It's hard to get peoples attention. But once they get a taste of old school, they'll never go back to their eggs. One of these persons decided to bring a shelf system in to work!Another guy at work decided to bid on an Ebay Mag 8300 and he won it! Maybe he'll be collecting them in the future. We'll see!

My neighbors were really impressed with my late 80's MI Master Blaster. The thing is made of thin plastic, uses 6.5s that hit like generic 5s, and uses tape innards more suitable for a Walkman. It's bigger than an M70 and the 8 D cells seem to double the curb weight! I may be wrong, but I think it's because it personifies the ghettoblaster so well, with cheesy graphics, bat out of hell midrange and treble, and nearly gratuitous curb presence. Perhaps, like a bassless Lasonic.

Runner-up is the JVC M-70. It impressed someone I met who works on speaker design and owns his own audio company. He agreed that it was very well designed for its time, and remembered steering people to this model back when he worked at Crazy Eddie's.

Big Ben gets the most curious looks and questions but the Panasonic RX-5350 usually gets the attention with the M-90 and C-100F coming in right behind.

This is a fun thread! thanks Bill! For em its VZ 2000 for looks and possibly where it sits in my apartment currently, but the Telefunken Studio 1M shocks them with bass and character!

Most of my freinds are impresed by the power and fidelity of a lot my boomers, especially of the ones I have from my high end component collection mainly...

But the one that gets em'...(no kidding) is the Sansui CP-7. They are amazed at how powerful it is with the punchy sound from the small speakers. And they are split between the silver and black.
