Weird One...

Hi All,

I'm new to Forum, but not to boomboxes. Being in my 70s I've had a few radio cassettes in my time (going back a long way).

My renewed interest has resulted in myself acquiring two units. The one in question is a Panasonic RX-ED50 (double cassette/radio/cd). The make and model is probably irrelevant. The 'weird' problem is outlined below...

Pre-recorded cassettes play fine through both A and B decks and through both speakers.
CDs play fine through both speakers.
AM/FM radio plays fine through both speakers.
Recordings have been made from the radio, cd and from prerecorded cassettes. While playing back the recording on both A and B decks, sound is only heard from the right speaker. The volume and quality is decent. Absolutely no sound from the left speaker. The recording level is set automatically. A dodgy recording head or faulty recording level/balance perhaps? This was my initial thought, until I played the recorded cassette in my other unit. You guessed it...it played perfectly through both speakers

My head scratching time is over. Would be grateful for any advice, tips, hints etc.

Thanks...Paddy

I recently had the same problem with a Aiwa TPR 955. It turned out it was a bad capacitor in the record amp section. I figured that out after pulling the record bar, function and mode switch completely apart and cleaning them and the problem was still there. Lots of fun to be had.
