Walkman to boombox - how to connect

Hi guys,

I have bought a 3.5mm to 5 pin DIN lead in the hope of connecting my Walkman to my Sharp GF9494 boombox, since the latter‘s cassette function has stopped operating.

There is a 5 pin din jack on the back of the Sharp but when I connect the two machines I hear nothing, even when pressing the Phono button on the Sharp.

Is it likely that the din connector is only for phono inputs like turntables, not for line-level inputs like the Walkman, and this is why I can’t hear anything?

Thanks for any advice.

The connector is marked with AMP , this is a line out .No sound in unfortunately
You can hook up an extra amp on it if you want more volume

Thank you for clearing that up. Do I have any way on this box to connect a Walkman apart from the RCA jacks, which do produce a sound from the Walkman but not a nice one.

You can try a 3.5 mm plug into the mix mic jack . it might only come out if the speakers in mono instead of stereo but it's worth a try. Also make sure the function switch is set on tape , all that does is make sure there are no other audio signals present.

Thanks. Will try this.

Fix the 9494 deck instead…they’re easy to work on. What’s wrong with it?
It’s had all the normal things done. Belts changed, pinch roller changed, idler tyre changed, head cleaned and demagnetised. The sound is still wow-y and muffled. My technician is baffled.

How do you adjust the head azimuth? Could it be that?

I listen a lot to internet radio and use a CCRANE transmitter to convert the audio to the good ol FM for my boxes
