HCO is the short name of my school. Today my teacher looked in the basement and found this. It was ment to be thrown away!!!! :dunce:
I got it 100% totally for free from my school...it is a GF-9696!!! I am not freaking kidding!!! :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

First the bad things: The antennas are broen off and one speaker grill is missing (might still be able to find it though).
The tuner is not working right now cause it was a school unit and schools had to deactivate the tuner. I think it is still in there but just not connected somehow. The needle for tuning moves so the string must be in there...

Now the good things: All LEDs are working!!! The tape deck is fully functional!!!! APLD works!!! Line in works! Nothing broken off!!! It looks awesome :w00t:

Now I am back on my feet after the GF777 tragedy, this one is awesome. I consider myself one of the luckiest people in the world today!!! :-D :-D :-D

What do you think? :-)

A GF-9696, for free.... from your scholl!!!! That is insanely AWESOME!!!! Herzlichen Glueckwunch!!! :-D

BTW, you better double check that connection. I believe it is a pure phono-in, not a standard line-in! You might do some damage if you plug a standard device into that RCA without a phono-attenuator.

Wow! Wow! Wow! I think you attend the coolest school in the world, Max. That is amazing!! :w00t:

I hope you get it cleaned up and functional again. Hopefully, like you said, someone just "unplugged" the tuner. Heck, even if it is only a cut wire, it will be easy to repair.

WOW Dude, that's crazy! What are the chances. And if you would not have been there at that moment, things could have gone horribly wrong! This jewel could have ended up in the trash.

Nice work!

Nice score!

Nice box!

I kow, the MP3 players need to be very silent when plugged in. It also works on my Crown 850 which also only has a Phono as "Line-in".
I know how to deal with those and the ipod already made a good sound on it  . (The GF9696 can amplify the silent input signal good enough :-) )
No need to worry :-) .

I already love that unit, I love the features on it! Tape speed adjusting rocks!!! The APLD is amazing, the LEDs look to cool and the power switch is a very cool idea  .

@ Gluecifer: She's going to get new antennas when I found out about that tuner issue. I also think they might have only disconnected the antenna wires. There is a sticker on it though that says "No Tuner" in German. Handwritten. Might be just to make it official or something  .

I will keep you updated about her :-) .

This is probably the most awesome compact unit that I have heard so far, no kidding, the bass and treble adjustments work perfect. Even old tapes which sound a little "bass-y" sometimes can be brought back to old glory. I once heard that in a video: The GF-9696 is the BMW of boomboxes. It is absolutely right!!! Perfect quality and still badass!!! :-D
