Hi guys,

First of all thanks to everyone for the help. Kev (Madbadger) strip down instructions especially helpful.Could not have done it without this forum

Been away for a bit, here are some pics of my VZ.

I have been waiting for my father in law to make me replacement function switches. He has finally finished them between his various travels around the world. (retired)I managed to save three so he made me four in aluminum

The finish is not bad but they did need a bit of tinkering with to get them to work.

Belts all changed and just waiting for the stylus

The Benetton sticker and the green trim round the tweeters before anyone asks.. I have contemplated removing them but decided to leave them. I put them on way back when I first had it and now I feel its part of my VZ's character and my past. I know that it won't be to everyones taste but its like a patina on a old bit of furniture

As I write its blasting out 'Breakin in Space by Key-Matic ! Class

Thanks again for the help and advice, Mark

ps Fatdog I think I have messed up where I wanted to post this. Can you move it if you think its in the wrong place ? Cheers

Looking good! With those strip down instructions it's a lot easier but it's still a pretty big task restoring one of these beauties so well done!! :-D

These things definitely get easier the more you do them and Sharps are really well put together so takin them apart is much easier, tho clearly the vz is a lot more complicated than most. I love mine, it's in a room with a dozen or so boxes but gets played more than any of the others as there's something special about listening to vinyl :-D

So is yours a recent purchase or (as you said you're loving it all over again) is this a from new purchase? :-)

No not recent. Bought it of a mate in 1984 for £100.

Used it for about two years then started buying separates. I then made a big mistake and let my sisters have care of it..It was mint apart from a broken slider which is how it came to me..

Over the next couple of years they visited hairspray, makeup, and dust all over it and thats when the power switch was damaged along with numerous function switches. They used a screwdriver to change the functions resulting in scratches on the metal. Something big got dropped on it denting it near the power button. Then it was abandoned.

It has lay in a wardrobe at my parents for probably nearly 20 years gathering dust.

I decided to try and rescue it after seeing all the VZs and other boxes being given a new lease.

Its no mint on close inspection, its scarred from the sisters, but I m well pleased with how its turned out. Just need the stylus and its done

It was going to reside under my vinyl but then I realised it was gonna catch the sun all day so now looking for somewhere else. The other half has suggested a shelf but that might need scaffold to support it
