VZ-2000 switching itself off on power-on

OK I dug my VZ-2000 out of the garage where it's been for a few years (yes I know, it's too nice to keep something like that there...) The record player has never worked since I got it; for one thing the belts have rotted away, and also the turntable PCB has been broken in half at some point. Although I find it hard to tell by looking at it if the PCB has been broken and then repaired again, or just left as-is. Maybe I'll post some photos. But regardless the turntable is more of a project. But when it was put into storage the tape deck and radio at least worked fine on it.

Anyway I got it out of storage the other day with the intention of using it to play tapes and listen to the radio, so I switched it on, and the radio seemed fine on it. I decided to clean it up and try and get rid of some stickers that were stuck on the side of it by standing it on end (this might be significant), but when I tried switching it on again after finishing cleaning it it switched itself off straight away. The radio came on for a second or so, and the power light lit up, but then the sound cut out and all I was left with was a very dimly-glowing power light. I've tried switching it off multiple times since, a couple of times it came on and stayed on for a bit, but 90% of the time it just cuts off within a second or two.

Any idea what might be wrong with it? Do you think I dislodged something inside when I turned it on its end, or is it just something finally beginning to give out on it. I did try taking it apart as far as pulling out the turntable mechanism and checked that the connectors on the power board were properly seated, and they look ok. I couldn't check the speaker connectors though, as they're hidden deeper inside, and I didn't want to take it apart further at that point. So I'm struggling for ideas right now. I want to do more work on the turntable to see if I can get it working again, but obviously I need to fix the power issue before there's any point even looking at that.

Oh FWIW the power switch is broken on it so I'm switching it on and off via the wall socket. I have tried poking a screwdriver inside and poking the real on-off switch that's hidden inside the unit, and that doesn't make any difference. It still cuts out within a second almost all of the time.

I've had this exact problem before on a VZ. It was the power supply which had died. I replaced it with another from a spares VZ and presto, all good. Not sure what is wrong with the power supply though...so can't help you there.

Ahh ok that's helpful anyway; I guess I need to find another VZ now and swap over the power supplies. I was going to try and locate another one in the hopes of finding an intact turntable PCB, so this is an added motivation now. Thanks!
