Hi has anyone had one of these apart and changed the belts???

Just ordered a belt set for one of my VZ units. Tape FF and RW seems a little weak, so i decided to change the belts.....have I got any shocks in hand when i strip it down. Has anyone got any tips etc..., thought about a Demagnetize but is it worth it? I've never had a tape deck in bits before, so any suggestions would be grateful....

cheers in advance

I just rebelted a VZ-2500(V20) yesterday and it was pretty easy. Hardest part was working the belts out.
The VZ-2500 has 4 belts:
One for the tape counter.
The drive belt from the motor to the fly wheel.
A small square belt to two connect the two pulleys
And another small square one from the motor to the pulley closest to the motor.

I'm not 100% sure if the VZ models share the same deck, but it looked similar on the schematics in the manual.

Post some pix up if you get stuck when you've got her apart.

Good luck!

hi, ive looked on the schematics for the 2000 and i can only see 3 belts. one large flat belt (around a large flywheel) a smaller square belt (motor drive?) and one for the tape counter (not bothered with changing that)

there is a large flywheel looking thing with rubber around it, not sure what it does, will post some pics when i get the belts and strip down.....

I re-belted my best VZ but it still struggles with the tapes, i cleaned everything i could but it must be general wear and tear over 30yrs.....

it plays fine all the way from end to end but once you get towards either end, the APSS dont work to well.....

so changing the belts made no or little difference.......

quite easy to change as well.
