I tried to play a record on my VZ 2000 that I restored some years ago, which has since always worked fine. Except that now it won't play any records anymore. Upon further investigation, I discovered a broken switch that detects when the tone arm is at start position. If I manually engage it, the tone arm moves into position and starts playing.

I have no idea how this happened, maybe just plastic that's gotten brittle over the years. Anyone else experienced this? Or know where to procure a replacement switch, in the hopes it won't break again? Picture of the switch when it was still in one piece (now, the plastic bit that bumps into the rotating pulley has broken off):

Yes ebay but don’t fall for the ones that are labelled vz switch, the ones for a quid are the exact same. Just search leaf switches.

I did - They're available here.

I think it might snap when the unit is bumped or set down too roughly. In the rest position that little peg is pushing against the switch, and there's a very narrow window where it clicks it off and before it starts to bend it, so it may not take much movement. Pretty sure this happened to me driving mine home, after it slipped off the back seat and had a hard (upright) landing.

Thanks! Ordered. That may have happened to mine as well. While it's been sitting on a shelf most of the time, I can see how it's easy to sit down a little hard given that it's so heavy, smaller boomboxes orbit it. Bet this box never was very popular in the actual streets :D
